The U16 event leads to Junior Fed Cup qualification and is therefore taken more seriously by the federations.
For the U18s, the fact that many players have ceased the junior circuit, as you say, is exactly the reason that less resources and attention is focused on this event.
Obviously some very good players will still take part, and obviously it must be great to be part of the team and participate, and we wish the GB team all the very best, but the event does not have the same prestige as the U16 event.
In the final qualifying matches the under 16s lost 2-1 to Sweden (defeats for Millie and Holly followed by a doubles win for Millie/Matilda) while the under 18s lost 2-0 to Spain (Esther losing in straights followed by a 3 set loss for Sonay, both against top 50ish juniors). Nevertheless the under 18s will be in the finals starting on Monday in France
A great upset win for the under 18s, featuring victory for Sonay over the JWR13. Slovakia await in the semis, who have a couple of ex top 50 girls making their way on the Pro Circuit

The final act in the season of Summer Cups belongs to the under 12s, whose finals start tomorrow. They have not been fortunate in the draw, as their round robin group of 4 includes Russia and the Czech Republic who, with Ukraine, have dominated U12 team events in recent years. France is the other nation in their group, and it is France who the British team face tomorrow
It was actually Russia that the under 12s faced today. Despite an early win for Mingge, straight sets defeats for Hephzibah and the duo in doubles meant a 2-1 defeat. They play the Czech Republic tomorrow
Another close defeat against one of the strongest nations. Mingge lost in straight sets, but Hephzibah beat the Czech number 1 in 3 sets, before the pair lost the doubles in a match tiebreak. The final group match is against France, and they need to win well plus hope that Russia beat the Czech Republic, in order to have any chance of finishing second in the group and playing off for bronze.
Great news as for the second time this year the under 12s claim a bronze medal in the European team competitions
They thumped France, and Russia obliged by beating the Czech Republic. That left a 3 way tie between the Czech Republic, France and GBR, which we won courtesy of sets won. Hence we played Bulgaria today, winning 2-0. Russia have already won the trophy with a 2-0 win, dropping just a handful of games, backing up my theory that most of the top European nations were in the same group
RR GBR 3 France 0
Mingge Xu won 6-0 6-1
Hephzibah Oluwadare won 6-1 6-1
Oluwadare/Xu won 6-2 6-2
3rd/4th play-off GBR 2 Bulgaria 0
Mingge Xu won 6-2 6-1
Hephzibah Oluwadare won 6-2 6-3
Mingge and Hephzibah rounded things off with a 6-4 6-2 win in the doubles (don't know why the third player Lois Newberry wasn't used, with the medal secure).
