Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - doubles

Ladies doubles done for the year, good effort by Heather and Mandy though

So EWS will remain the 3rd best GB doubles ranking points scorer this year, the vast bulk of these from the last 3 months in partnership with Sofia Shapatava.

A fact that I'm sure the AELTC remain unaware of (or else they should be ashamed), but nevertheless they and the LTA clearly have ageist discriminatory policies. Good for Sam that she managed to get by them this year, but no such opportunity for even Q participation for doubles players this year.

We don't seem to have a mixed doubles section, but I am sure I am not the only one who has been watching our mixed doubles with great interest - what a revelation Hoyt and Silva have been - they have both been fabulous in the 2 and a half matches I have seen (on the red button) and look as if they actually have a chance of going further and maybe even making the final or winning it. Because of all the attention on Andy Murray and Serena, they seem to have slipped under the radar, but they were so good today and they both showed such battling qualities to win. Big well done to them. I'd love to see Eden play doubles with Heather - they are both great doubles players and I think they would make a great pairing.

 Hi Andy

It was actually set up in mens section which was by Stircrazy and where she hangs out mainly , so hence she placed it there. But there are quite a few pages now and posts so enjoy catching up!

Just to note, if we want to talk about contrasting fortunes, that Nicole Melichar who partnered Bruno in the mixed doubles win over Murena, and who played extremely well, was Anna Smith's last partner before she had her knee surgery over a year ago. Anna seems to have disappeared without much trace since then. Have not heard any news about her for months. Her last points fall away now so post-Wimbledon she will have no doubles ranking. Nicole does fall 5 positions and will be WR 20 next week,

Depends what you mean by disappeared. Anna has been involved in a podcast I think and charity tennis with children.

Ok that's good to know. I wondered whether she had any ambition to play again competitively. I don't think she envisaged the recovery would take this long initially.
