Weeks 27 & 28 - The Championships, Wimbledon (grass) - mixed doubles

Fun match to watch - so impressed with both players. Not quite so with Mr Castle 'I don't know if Evan has been injured'. DO YOUR HOMEWORK, THAT'S WHAT YOU ARE PAID FOR!

£20 000 for Evan so far this Wimbledon if you add the qualifying first round loss and the mens doubles first round defeat. Not bad for someone who hadnt even earned £3500 this year on tour. Hopefully this will come in handy for working out a schedule for the rest of the year.

By the same reckoning, Eden must have the same.

As you say,  a deal changer really.

Just brilliant for them.

AND they played superbly and deserved it.

They're our 'Jay and Harriet ' story for this year.

Hope they are around together next year too......wink

Maybe Ms Silva should check who Ms Gauff is playing with next year before she commits ...

We need to stop celebrating doubles success, this should not even be reported on.  Evo is correct, these are all just failed singles players.

Ah but we are British Vandy, we love to celebrate failure don't you know, especially such successful failure as this! wink

Not at all.

Celebrating failure is saying 'didn't Jo do well to make the QFs, we'd all have taken that at the start of the tournament'. She lost a set that she 100% should have won. Which quite likely cost her the match.

The mixed doubles, played by young players, is not failure. It is fun. It is experience. It is taking money off the AELTC. There are LOTS of things in it to celebrate.

So good to see Andy actually smiling & appearing actually to be enjoying himself on court.

L16:  (1) Bruno Soares & Nicole Melichar (BRA/USA) CR 22 (7+15) vs Andy Murray & Serena Williams (USA) UNR (148+0)

Edited to correct round - I was obviously getting ahead of myself!  Wishful thinking, I guess.  hmm

Nobody's forcing you (or Jaggy or certain others) to celebrate doubles success, Vandenburg, nor even to read the doubles threads.  Kindly leave the rest of us to report results & enjoy our simple pleasures without your carping.

That is going to be a good match, presumably on court tomorrow. Isnt it last 16 though?

Well 'man' of the match was definitely Serena. I was disappointed with how Andy played, and only hope that it was due to lack of match time. It was concerning for me that he didn't move quickly back for a couple of overheads. Hopefully not injury related.

I dont think andy is confident with serena, sort of the junior partner, so less decisive.

I guess Andy is only at a certain stage yet. Kinda why he's just playing doubles.

and sort of confirmed by Andy, says he wont be ready to play singles for US Open, not sure if it worth going over to play doubles only, but positive about future in longer term

Might be worth a read:

www.tennisabstract.com/blog/2019/07/09/introducing-elo-ratings-for-mixed-doubles/

Rates Jo Durie, John Lloyd and Jeremy Bates as our top mixed players of all time, with Jamie our top modern player and Heather up there. Andy has a decent partner as well.
