Super gutsy win in 3 very long sets by Sasha, carrying on the good form from qualis

Not a bad idea for Emma to play, decent standard and a chance to blow the cobwebs off.

Yay, that looks a win and a half or even a bit more!

Worth noting that the top seed, sent packing by Sasha Hill today, is not only JWR 4 but also WTA 425 !

Well done again, Sasha !!!!

On a rather sadder/more dispiriting note, worth noting that one top LTA female (very good player herself but has done nothing for players' progression, in my view, despite being on the board) did not even know who Sasha was and had to ask someone else who she was and what Sasha's name was. It's not as though we've got a glut of players - you'd think they'd at least know the few we do have, even if they're not part of the LTA elite.......

Well done Sasha. So encouraging for her.

I don't often come onto the junior pages but saw Steven's tweet about Sasha's win. That's a CB win for her by someway - previous highest listed is WR 628.

Note CD's comment too about the LTA member and find it appalling. Sasha has had some good result on the ITF tour, and played in Wimbledon WC playoffs, losing 3-6 3-6 to Naomi, which is not a bad result at all. So a senior LTA woman member doesn't know all the players that played in the WC playoffs? What does she spend her days doing? Obviously doesn't visit this forum...

So often LTA folks simply seem to exude complacency... which is a sure sign of an underperforming, blunt edged organisation.

And hope Sasha can gather a few more wins too. She's another person I'd love to be able to succeed in spite of the LTA's ignorance and indifference.

I know my opinion is very biased (junior tennis was my area) but I think people who follow GB tennis should always look at the top junior events, at least the G1s, say, and junior slams.

I agree that the doubles finalist in a G4 is rather distant and a little specialised !

David has signalled the three Anglo-Franco encounters this afternoon.

In terms of the three girls, Elsa Jacquemot (2003) is the stand out, in my view. Very young. Plays very well. I can't see Destinee beating her. Selena is very highly regarded too (but I barely know her). Emma looked a little rusty but that's the whole point of playing here. Will be interesting.

But again, worth noting the difference in approach of the federations:

Selena (2002) was given a MD wildcard at Roland Garros - main draw, I repeat !!!! (As, indeed, was Diane Parry - 2002 - also playing here)

Elsa got a quali wildcard - and won a round.

Carole is the least favoured, partly because she is 2001. But also just slightly off the level of the others. Am hoping Sonay can cause an upset with her whippy crosscourt.

NB Joanna was playing well but not out of the park. Holly looked on form and well (although not actually smiling )
