Wonderful from Sam, who finally breaks Bucsa to win. Has the determination and discipline many of her younger peers still lack.
QR2: Samantha MURRAY (GBR) 362 vs Cristina BUCSA (ESP) 234=CH 7-6(4)
QR1: Gabriella TAYLOR (GBR) 342 lost to Ysaline BONAVENTURE (BEL) [q12] 115 (CH:114) 4-6 6-7(5)
FQR: Samantha MURRAY (GBR) 362 vs Paula BADOSA (ESP) [q22] 126 (CH:116)
Note: How many people have Sam in their top 10 this year? This win pushes her up into the GB #11 position post Wimbledon, ahead of Gabi now, who also pushes Naomi down into 13th position. Fran still a little way ahead and quite possibly Katy D being the next most vulnerable.
Yes, but they did it for the crowd here. There's a way better atmosphere on court 16 - it's the real show court (along with 14). And now court 10 with the new stand seating. The televised court is very sterile. Not many people.
Sam started so poorly but, as per her interview, said she had to stop coming in, make more balls, rally from the back,....and she did, superbly. A lovely wedding present to herself- and still going
Cori Gauff had the whole Tribune of seats up on their feet at the end. Just amazing. For a girl born 2004. Patrick Moratogolou was in the stands, watching and supporting. Seemingly he's her coach now. And a bloody good job he's doing....

The main issue is the lack of cameras. Surely they could ensure 1 or 2 other courts were being streamed, or is if purposeful to try and keep it as low key as they can, so that the big show seems even bigger? You can watch just about every Aussie and French Q match (can't fully remember the US Open, but we'll find out soon - I'm pretty sure you can stream a lot there as well). There was loads of matches I'd have like to see, some still on going, but you'd think it was W25 qualifying or something.
I hope when they eventually do bring qualifying on site, that's the first thing they change.

Ok, so it makes a little more sense now. But why not have courts 16/14 streamed instead?
Lisicki also through, so 3/9 QWCs made the FQR, even if just one Brit, so that will be another interesting match tomorrow, like Gauff, and they can't show them all.
W also need to do something about the queue. Hard to get tickets in the ballot, hard to get tickets in person.
Definitely.
Again, hopefully when the expansion is complete and extra courts built (I think) and the extra capacity and space, it will make it easier to get hold of tickets.

They will need to change the ballot though which they won't and I don't fancy coming from Scotland to queue in person either. Mind you might help that the big 3/4 will have retired by then (but may have been replaced by another big 3)

Yeah, good point about the appeal of the big 3, and Murray of course, especially with those Federer queue articles the other other day when he was out shopping. But then again, Wimbledon does just generally seem a big deal and important to so many who have limited interest in tennis the other 50 weeks of the year (or certainly outside of the 3 successive slams), so it's name alone will likely ensure excessive demand once they retire, but you can also guarantee the new obvious 3 or 4 young candidates will continue to be pushed and promoted to give them the best chance of feeling more important and filling the void, even if their initial slam results don't really match that, like Zverev (a lot of the audience won't care about Masters 1000s).
