Those who follow the main draw singles may have seen that I also keep a list of the qualifying wins we achieve in the various events. As this easily gets lost and also confuses, I felt it would be worthwhile to keep a separate tab.
Last season, worth noting, we had 54 (yes 54) qualifying wins across the various grass court events.
So far this season across the first two weeks of events, with the next batch upon us, we have 8 wins: worth noting that Sam has gone onto a standout main draw week this week of course
June 15th table - wins today for Wardy and Naiktha, both quite impressive in different ways and at bigger events on the seasons list, new table is: now reached 10 qualies wins this season. Sam and Tara still lead the way but James and Naiktha could draw level with surprise wins tomorrow and then we have Ilkley on Monday , albeit the usual 4 man mens draw.
1 S. Murray 2
T. Moore 2
3 A. Watson 1
B. Klein 1
E. Appleton 1
J. Ward 1
N. Bains 1
R. Peniston 1
List of qualifying wins at end of 3rd week of qualifying events: just Eastbourne and Wimbledon qualies to come. Note, not counting pre qualifying as this isnt ATP/WTA level event, rather a locally organised event to get into qualifying itself
1 B. Klein 2
J. Ward 2
S. Murray 2
T. Moore 2
5 A. Watson 1
E. Appleton 1
N. Bains 1
R. Peniston 1
Quickly back into action with womens qualifying in Eastbourne tomorrow, Alicia Barnett and Freya Christie playing, neither has a win on the score board yet in the qualies race however.
With two excellent victories for Dino and Jubb today, this is the latest table below. With just Wimbledon qualies to come it will need a strong week from someone below him to topple James Ward from top spot and King of the Qualies!
1 J. Ward 4
2 B. Klein 2
P. Jubb 2
S. Murray 2
T. Moore 2
6 A. Watson 1
E. Appleton 1
N. Bains 1
R. Peniston 1
So looking at the qualies list, only 3 players can catch James ward. Ryan peniston and naiktha bains can but will need to qualify to equal him. Sam murray can overtake james with 3 wins at roehampton. So a battle in this table between those 4.
So mens qualifying R1 is over and despite some close efforts, just Liam scores a win. We are now looking at a battle directly between James Ward (who isnt playing qualies this week) and Sam Murray who can take the title if she qualifies for Wimbledon. Shuai Peng is first up for her as reported elsewhere
