Much better indeed, Minnen serving to stay in the set at 5-4*, recovered an early break as well (Bains).
I was noticing it a bit yesterday in Jodie's match, but the score also often changes before the shot is played - I put the stream back on and Naiktha was bouncing the ball, yet the score was saying 5-4* and I was confused for a second.
Golubic (in Wimbledon) beat Blinkova (not yet) in 3.
But McNally and Smitkova (both not) have taken the first sets against Brady and Diatchenko (both are) respectively.
Normally I'd like a talented youngster like McNally to go on a run at the expense of the likes of Diatchenko who primarily use the ITFs to just about stay in the top 100 when pushing 30, but if the Wimbledon MDWCs are going to go the way I think they are, then I'd rather these 'threats' were out early. Obviously a lot can happen between now and Wimbledon, not least injuries, but if it was between say McNally or Jodie to get a MDWC, I know which way I'd rather it went.
Great win for Katy. Unseeded Smitkova next, although that will be tough as she won Ilkley last year and reached 4th round of Wimbledon a few years ago and put out a seed. But she's making a case for being the next in line after the Fed Cup team, and another win won't harm that at all.

Yes, Katy still has further to go to make this point. Even with this win she is still 24 places behind Jodie in the live rankings (259 to 235), and Jodie only lost to a whisker to a player in the cusp of the top 100 compared to Ankita being Wr 170. Next match will bring it all much closer though if Katy could pull that one off too.
Yes, the live guaranteed points for 17/06 ( the rankings before the WC announcement ) after our top ranked 4 are:
5. Katie S 262 points 6. Naiktha 239 7. Jodie 238 8. Katy D 206 ( including 13 so far this week ).
Out of interest I was looking at the relevant rankings last year when we had 6 MD WCs. Lowest ranked of these then was Katy D at WR 222 and it was good that she got in to join the others. Naiktha, Jodie and Katy D are currently lower ranked than all of last year's GB MD WCs.
So, seeds Riske and AVU both won in straight sets and the L16 line up is as follows:
(1) AVU (Y) vs (Q) Dolehide (N) Zhu (N) vs (Q) McNally (N) (3) Riske (Y) vs Minnen (N) (WC) Dunne (Y) vs Smitkova (N)
(5) Rybarikova (Y) vs (Q) Kalinskaya (N) Brengle (Y) vs Watson (Y) (6) Golubic (Y) vs Wickmayer (N) Lapko (Y) vs (2)Maria(Y)/Diyas(Y)
I forgot Diyas and Maria were yet to play as there is no stream for that match, both of those have made the Wimbledon draw. Y = potential MDWC kept in house.

Doubles draw opening up nicely. Naomi snd Naiktha beat the 4th seeds, and both the second and third seeds have gone out - and the top seeds are a set down. I'll post the results after the two remaining matches finish.
