Week 23 - ITF (W100) - Surbiton, Great Britain - Grass

Quarter final draw

Katy DUNNE (GBR) / Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) (WC) 467 (220+247) v Madison BRENGLE (USA) /Sachia VICKERY (USA) 607 (331+276)

Heather WATSON (GBR) / Yanina WICKMAYER (BEL) 208 (59+149) v Naiktha BAINS (GBR) / Naomi BROADY (GBR) (WC) 310 (272+138)

I reckon theirs a good chance of the first pairs in each match going through.

Edit: - Rankings adjusted to show doubles only (as requested !)

Think I prefer the normal just posting the doubles rankings and combined rankings no matter what was actually used for entry.

Plus it's less to look up and write for the poster  smile

I do to, but I thought that as there were so many players with high singles rankings, I ought to include both this time. I think doing it any other way could have been a bit misleading this time. For example Brengle and Vickery - CR607 based on doubles only.

Edit:- I usually import the draw into a spreadsheet on the rare occasions that there are a number of entries, and the rankings are easy to look up on the ITF website

Naa, never really seen it as a problem myself. If even thinking about it I just sometimes take it that some high CRs involve singles ranking entries without being bothered what these rankings are. They are playing doubles after all so I'm happy ( indeed happier ) with just the doubles figures.

But if you really want to add the singles figures you do so ...

Isn't it more confusing using best of rankings? Seedings are based on doubles rankings only, so using best of rankings you could show an unseeded team with a much higher CR than a seeded team which would just be confusing.

But at the end of the day, it depends what is trying to be communicated with the inclusion of the rankings as to what would be the most appropriate.

True, I wasn't thinking about the seedings. In this tournament it doesn't actually make any difference as it happens, although pretty close between several pairs for third and fourth seeds.
I'll stick to just the doubles in future

Because of the rain there are 43 matches to be played tomorrow.
Also of note: not one women's match - not even Heather! - is on the main court which is very poor for a combined event and a "home" one as well. Tomic vs Paul is a curious choice to start play, even with the contingent of Aussies around

Yes, but this is because of the livestreaming, I believe. i.e. all the men's ones are being livestreamed by ATP and so are on the same courts and all the ITF ones likewise, I don't think they can mix them up.

However, net net, I agree, it looks bad to run a joint event and then not have the women ever on the show court.

Add: and I also agree about the comments about Jodie. As mentioned previously, I've seen it very markedly both in Jodie and in Freya, in a very similar manner, which made me question whether there was a JTC connection.....

Is it? I suppose that's a reason but still - the optics whatever the reason isn't great.

So now you've got Hev on Centre Court - but no livestream because that's the ATP court crycrycry

You really would think the two bodies could sort this out.....it's ridiculous

From yesterday, Hev was playing extremely well, the level of her match (both players), compared to Katy's, was chalk and cheese. (No criticism of Katy - just you sometimes wonder how Raina got to be so high ranked)

Yep, contrasting starts as Heather trails by the same margin.

Important hold for Katy as well as she had to save at least 2 BPs, just before the rain arrived.

Its lovely up North! Hope it stays for Ilkley! and Manchester for that matter!

Mind you, I have been in Florida past 11 days or so, 90 degrees every day and hard for me to live with to be frank, although even there we had a little rain most days as the rainy season is just starting in June
