Ash was my pick to win even before the tournament started and I'm really pleased for her. She did to Vondrousova what Jo should have done yesterday. I agree with FW that Jo would have given Barty more of a test today but I still think we would have had the same winner.
These were also precisely my thoughts also... and I suspect if she watched any of it, they would have been Jo's thoughts too. I hope she uses this to build her confidence and mental strength that she can go all the way...
Sadly I agree. I only saw the second set, and it was painful watching and then waiting for all those UEs on her backhand.
So sad, it was a wasted opportunity. I hope she can regroup for the grass, but the pressure will be on her there in a much bigger way than it was today as the media in the UK will be gunning for her.
I feel that will be the case particularly if she gets to the later stages of Wimbledon. Paris started off with whether she could win a first round match for the 1st time and finished with media over-hype by the time of the semi final. Because of the play being cancelled for a day the excessive media hype was over 2 days. It will be the same for any British player who gets to the later stages of Wimbledon but apart from Jo and Kyle Edmund it is hard to see who is likely to achieve this.
The 70s engraver had a bit of a mare, what with misspelling Jausevec too!

Apparently one of the trophies is named after Simonne Mathieu and that is also spelt incorrectly as Simone Mathieu (or the other way around, I think I am correct).
