Weeks 22 & 23 - French Open, Paris - Clay

Well said Jo!

I mentioned I saw her on a video on the plane where she did a speech to the Oxford Union, really impressive and engaging, as well as insightful and thoughtful

Before this tournament started I thought Jo might reach the 3rd/4th round. Another semi final is a fantastic result for her, especially considering her relatively poor results in GS recently. I dont think the cooler conditions helped her today and she needs to do more mental work to handle the extra pressures players feel in the latter stages of a GS. I hope she manages to get some rest and then carries her improved form onto the grass, its been so lovely watching her play so freely this clay court season.

I'm sorry but that was an epic choke.

Sadly I agree. I only saw the second set, and it was painful watching and then waiting for all those UEs on her backhand.

So sad, it was a wasted opportunity. I hope she can regroup for the grass, but the pressure will be on her there in a much bigger way than it was today as the media in the UK will be gunning for her.

I agree that it was MUCH further we expected to get at the start of the tourney, but it was still soooo sad that she choked and threw away such a good chance.

Yay, Ash Barty wins the title 6-1 6-3  smile

Slam winner and up to WR 2

Hope she feels that it was worth returning to this tennis lark.

If it was not to be Jo then ...

Very happy with that win - such a lovely unpretentious person. Wishing her many more successes in the near future.

Oh Jo. Think Jo would've given Barty more of a match. Very happy for Ash though and look forward to seeing more of Vondrousova in the future too.

Barty Party!
This underscores an already fabulous, hopeful story for a player which the game so very nearly lost altogether. Could not be happier for the winner.

With Barty & Osaka now in possession of 3 of the 4 Slams, the WTA future looks to be in very healthy shape going forward.

Ash was my pick to win even before the tournament started and I'm really pleased for her. She did to Vondrousova what Jo should have done yesterday. I agree with FW that Jo would have given Barty more of a test today but I still think we would have had the same winner.

Congrats to Ash.

I do remember years ago someone here touting her as a future world #1? Who was that?
