honestly I have gone from being lukewarm on the new rankings to actively despising them very quickly. I want to try and compare two players and I get two conflicting numbers where one player is much higher in one and the other player is much higher in the other. How is this good for fans in any way?
True, we wont get a clear picturr until this time next year.
Not sure about that. There's a full year of stats in both rankings figures as it is and the ITF rankings are a mixed up bit of a mess in many regards since points from a subsection of tournanents.
I certainly judge first from the ATP/WTA rankings, still fair as to who has achieved more in the better tournanents .
ITF rankings can tell comparative stories at times but to some extent are a measure of quantity of transition tournaments as also other better players dip in from above and young prospects begin to make their way.

Yes but for the men, the ATP rankings now only tell you how they perform at Challenger level and above. They don't tell you much even for W25s now, and I still see the ITF rankings as very limited in that regard. So it's hard to measure the 'real' progress of young male players now until they can get to Challenger level, which is a long way up the ladder. With the women it's arguably a little better, but still with the bottom rungs of the ladder cut off, it's still hard to assess aspiring professionals under the new system....
