Week 7 - (ITF W60) - Shrewsbury, GB Hard

Victoria Allen has played incredibly well against the WR 271. Has to hold serve to stay in the match now though 6-7(6) *4-5

She must obviously be a bit of a player. 5-5* and obviously such fight in that first set. I recall her beating Patterson on the grass last summer and maybe another notable win. She's obviously a decent junior, but we've seen a few who have junior slam appearances struggle to adapt to pro's. Really encouraging whatever happens here.

She's only gone and broken her as well :) *6-5. Come on girl!

Jodie serving for the match. 6-4 *5-1. She's won 8 of the last 9 games after an initial scare, but I haven't really been watching it.

Burrage wins 6-4 6-1 and a MTB for Allen.

Allen was *2-4, but now 6-5*

7-5* mini break advantage now.

In a great position, *8-5...

She got to *9-5, so 4 MPs, but opponent just saved one against serve.

Been a excellent set of results so far. 4 first round wins, all against higher ranked seeds (some may have been faves but that's still good going to get 4/5 into the FQR). It was obviously a case of one or the other with Jodie and Eden and realistically, we've got the one who can do most damage going through there and at least Eden gets some reward and now a superb win for Allen.

Laura showed good battling and fighting spirit in the FQR, got the taste of the initial W and can hopefully look forward to Glasgow.

Allen winning again would just be the icing on the cake. Not even sure who she faces though.

Great looking win from Victoria and a second WTA counter. Now 7 points from 2 counters.

A FQR win would take her to 9 points so would be still one point short of a ranking.

It's the racquet smashing Reix next up, who also had to come through a MTB to beat her compatriot in QR1.

Even if she does get another counter, she will struggle to get into a 25k or higher event.
Does WTA ranking take preference for $15k events?

I assume the organisers are putting on a main draw event tonight so draw and OOP will not be available until 9pm.

Yes, Victoria needs her junior ranking to get into W15 events at the moment, since she has no ITF ranking at all.  And she would indeed struggle to get into W25 events without an actual WTA ranking.

Looks like Allen's match with Reix has been moved on to Court 1 with all the short finishes, so we should be able to stream it.
