Lovely to see Laura playing like that again... Brings back memories of old. Her opponent isn't bad but doesn't stand a chance with Laura playing like that... and has now retired i see. She will have Jessika Ponchet next likely, if indeed she beats Emily A, in the FQR, and that could be a good test for Laura. And good for her she's only had a warm up in this match, and no serious exertions!
Shame for the other girl, but that was just the perfect warm up for Laura's match this afternoon. I was a bit worried about her having to play twice on her first day back, but not any more. Incidentally, now there are just 2 rounds of qualies will she get 1 point for that or 3?

Well that was about as good a first match back as Laura could have hoped for! She looked confident and was hitting the ball really nicely with some good controlled tennis. Shame for her opponent that she had to retire but from Lauras perspective it was all perfect as she had 30 mins or so to settle herself back in without taking too much out of herself for the 2nd match later today.
Looking like Ponchet next for Laura as Michael says, looks like Emily is finding it tough. Looked a couple of close games at the start, but from 0-1 A-40, Jessica won 16 of the next 19 points to have a commanding *0-5 lead. Assuming this set goes, hopefully Emily at least tests her more.

She gets 3 points for that SuperT and another 2 points if she qualifies. Laura loses 9 points this week, so she has now reduced that to -6 so far.
Still obviously very young, but that's only 5 games won in her last 2 matches and 2 bagels as well. Ponchet is a decent player, came through Aussie Open quals so was a tough draw and not many would have expected too much, but I think she would have hoped for a quicker and better transition given she was a decent junior.
Jodie now up 5-2* She should have wrapped up the first set by now, it's only some very poor errors on Jodie's part that allowed her opponent to win her last service game.
