There is a glut of high grade events coinciding with the Australian Open, and there is a sizeable group of Brits here hoping to take advantage of a weaker than usual draw for a G2
I think it is quite well thought out particularly on the boys side as it gives the real youngsters (ie good boys turning 15) a chance to step up the age groups and compete right at the beginning of a new year age group wise.
