Ah cool, I didn't know if we would sub in given that it's so early on in the year - unlike Ed/Alex. (This is only the 2nd year I have played)

We will all take a hit, since everyone has ranked him, and the lowest anyone has ranked him is 189. But it's a hit I don't mind at all...

That was me. I said elsewhere I wasn't sure whether he might retire mid-season but I didn't expect the announcement today cry

I hope he has a chance to enjoy his last season (however long it lasts).

He is still playing Australian Open. The press conference comments suggested he would retire after Wimbledon and I assume if his body hold up he would play in between. The big question is: - will his body hold up? Andy wasn't convinced.

His points from Aus and Wimbledon could put him in the GB top 20 without winning.

Andy has 20 points from Brisbane so at least 30 this year after Aus Open R1. And just these points would currently be enough for GB top 10 and in the predictions comp a whole point for all of us with him in our top 10 even if 5 places or more away.

Actually if he does end on 30 points I really hope that it is not enough for top 10 come season end and other players have come through.

It all really depends a bit on how determined Andy is to battle through the pain and retire playing Wimbledon. Generally it was my feeling that things would pan out this way and hed pick up just short of 300 points in the process.

Personally I hope he does what is best for his body which is to stop now. His hips have obviously taken a real pounding and perhaps a bit more, managing the pain (injections etc) would be acceptable to him to get to Wimbledon; managing the psychological impact and just giving time to adjust from being an elite athlete to an ex-elite athlete may be attractive to him. He may already have a good understanding of what he needs to function day to day once he has stopped training in the way he does, it may be nothing more surgery or surgery later but realistically he needs to get round on those hips for another 50 years.

From my perspective purely from a predictions ranking perspective it is essential that he pushes on with the injections etc... to knock out this measles 300 points. It is fair to say I would forgive him were he to take the sensible option and put his long term health first.

Apologies for my very belated checking of my starting points.

I make it I should only have 44 rather than 53.

I appear to have a very generous total of 19 for 2 counts for Brydan, 10 and 9. The maximum 10 is OK, my closest starter but not the additional 9.

Update on tables.

Thanks for pointing out the error in your total indiana, I also found the same mistake in Stronbow's score - you both had 11 entries!!

Strongbow is still heading up the real entries but not too much change from the start of the year shown by "Status Quo" still with a healthy lead

Latest state of play after French Open.

Very little change in the GB rankings since start of April. Jay moves ahead of James at 4 and Jack Findel-Hawkins drops one place to 15.

Leafster does move into the "lead" among the pollsters but so far you would have been better off keeping with the Status Quo but as they would say The Party ain't over yet.......

As evidence, it shows Vandy in the top half dozen, must be a software bug somewhere?
