Anders Borg will have offered the two Norwegians wcs, with no qualifying. He puts on events over there as well.
In the ITF G4, great effort from three of our little 2005-ers, with Andrea Pineda getting the win, Eva Shaw losing out in a third-set TB to the 4th seed (ranked 404 player), and Jaquelyn Ogunwale losing to the 5th seed, ranked about the same.

The 13 year olds did really well and there are some very strong 14 year olds playing. Hannah Smith double bageled the Turkish lass and Sofia Johnson dispensed with the number 3 seed from Poland (303) in straight sets ranked over a 1000 places higher, however Sofia probably just hasnt participated enough at this level same school as Emma R and although a couple of years younger similar physique. Quite an exciting group.
It is very exciting to see so many 14 year olds competitive in a grade 4 tournament. When you look back a couple of years to the equivalent tournament, I dont think there was so much depth i.e. unseeded younger players of great promise.
Teenage years are challenging (full stop) with everyone growing at different rates. I wish them all well and look forward to some really testing matches from this point on, lets hope they are all hard fought, both players enjoy it and take away ideas for further improvement.
Andrea Pineda is a talented youngster, though she's born 2004, not 2005.
Yes, sorry. Its only Eva and Jaquelyn of those three who are 13 and born 2005. My mix-up.
Several of the girls in the U14 tennis europe event, obviously, are also 13.
I don't think they're are really more young players than there used to be - I tend to think we just get excited, and hopeful, when a couple of new ones come along.
THere are several that I can think of that were getting a lot of mention when they were 13, a couple of years back, who have not really progressed in the way one would have hoped.
That said, obviously wish them all well, and follow with interest.
As said before, Hannah Smith is one who stood out for me when she was 12 as a different sort of player with qualities that could serve her well going forward.
I've seen Pineda on livestream and that was technically very good but it was a couple of years ago now.
Quite a few of our girls playing this G4 are actually quite old, 2001 and even 2000.
I do like this group, time will tell. Emma R won this tournament or its equivalent as a 13 yr old, I think it would be more challenging with this group and expect the QFs to be tight.
I find it very encouraging that we have a lot of very good girl prospects who are black. And, indeed, of different ethnic mixes in general. It is so good to see a different face to British tennis. Hephzibah Oluwadare is an even younger extremely interesting prospect.

Hannah had her work cut out today. Very very close first set but Pola is a very highly ranked 14 yr old, to a certain extent it just takes a bit of time to accumulate points which she has done pretty quickly, with a bit of luck Hannah will have softened her up for Andrea.
