Week 42 - WTA Premier ($868k) - Moscow, Russia - Hard

just watched the replay where kasatkina play pav
pav game a bit like jos though pav is better volleys and touch
kasatkina dismiss pav tho pav was playing good it just kasatkina had ansers to everything and her movement top notch
moscow crowd love her too and it probly be a very partisan maybe even hostile crowd for jo
daria in great nick and has a chance to make top 10 so odds look well against the brit but she has made 3 wins agaunst higher ranks on the bounce this week so maybe 4 is posible

Jo on court against the Russian Wall - coverage on BTSport and streams available.
An early break down *1-4 (close to breaking back though)

Got the break back for *4-5, but was broken again for 4-6
Some tremendous tennis here, really high quality from both of them

Jo lost 6-4 6-3
But some great play, and I'd say encouraging for Jo.

v enjoyabel despite the result

cant see jo chasing 125Ks in late season so thats a wrap on her 2018

not bad to finish top 40 in whats suposedly been a teribel year

i disagree about her being to agressive
its been the same with jo for a decade now - get the fh and serve working reliabel and repeatabel and good things happen
if they both on song she can be agressive as she wants to be
but the fh goes walkabout. during her best period it didnt and that was the difference
no point making plans b c d or anything if your major wepon isnt working
carrill (and garcia who almost always never get a mentsion) and fissette both grooved that fh and let it root everything else

onwards and upawrds for 2019 jo
now have a nice rest and enjoy your new dog smile

This semi final was Jo's best ever performance in a WTA  main indoor tournament.

Daria Kasatskina pules off another comeback to beat Ons Jabeur 2-6, 7-6(3) 6-4 and take the title. So Jo isn't far away from the standard.
Daria was 1-4 down in the second set, and then Philippe Dehaes gave yet another inspirational pep-talk.

Agreed, and I'll repeat what I said before although I was shot down in flames at the time.  Harriet lost in qualifying in a third set a tie break to the losing finalist which suggests she's not too far away from being competitive at WTA level too.

It doesn't really, SuperT. I've not seen the match, but Sloane is getting absolute pelters on TF for the performance and that she couldn't be bothered at all but just took the WC to deny Svitolina getting one.

I have recorded BT (mainly for Jo) so might watch it back tonight, so will see for myself, but sounds like a pretty poor move by Sloane.

I wouldn't say shot down in flames SupetT, I was just responding to a few on another forum questioning the attitude of someone who previously went on a 9 match losing run after winning the US Open or lost 1 and 0 earlier this year to Coco V, on clay. I even followed that up with this the next day:

Ons did follow that Stephens win with another over Kontaveit. Strange to think she had to serve to stay in the match twice in qualifying vs Dart but has now made a Premier semi final. Good look to her and hopefully Harriet can take positives as was previously suggested by Super(T).

But yes, Ons is a very talented player, someone who I'd expect to stay in the top 100 for a long time this time and hopefully Harriet can take confidence and positives from that as you suggest, as well as the tight losses to Ka Pliskova and Sevastova earlier in the year (and the various top 100 wins) - it's certainly more positive than the recent losses to the like of Han, Panova and the Japanese women who's name escapes me.

Felt so sorry for Ons here though with the way it ended.

"shot down in flames" was supposed to be tongue in cheek but it's sometimes hard to express the correct nuance in writing.  Sorry for any unintended slight AV as I wan't contradicting your comments about Sloane and had somehow missed the follow up post.  I come on here for fun and to keep up to date, and sometimes it's nice to have my say, but I definitely don't want to get into arguments with anyone.
