Phew.

Just looked in again and thought it was "dang" Jo had been broken or even lost.

JoKo was by far the more aggressive player in the late part of that match - and although there were some shanks, as expected, a lot missed by inches.

I think she deserved to win, no question (although I might be a bit biased )

Don't think Jo has ever really stopped being aggresive. She's just too often neglected to get the ball over the net and between the appropriate lines.

(6) Kasatkina or Pavyluchenkova next.

If that is won, (5) Sevastova or Jabeur in the final.

So although the original top 4 seeds departed early to nurse injury or head off early to Shanghai, Jo could still have to beat seeds 5, 6 & 7 to win the title.

A coaching change of face can be initially good in itself ( Bouchard started pretty well with Joyce ) but hope this week really is the start of much better times again.

Really gritty performance from Jo.

She wouldnt have won this type of match earlier in the season . Mentally she looked a lot better and it was great to see her serving two first serves to finish the match off . She looked delighted at the win .

This season has been tough but its good to see her finishing the year with some wins. Big question will this trial coach set up be made permanent? .

Yes, I agree. But I guess what I meant is that sometimes she sprays the ball everywhere. But this time, although there were a few shockers (which you expect when you're really aggressive), a lot only missed by a fraction, which is encouraging. (As well as the win itself, of course)

Jo's problem earlier in the season was that she was ONLY aggressive, with no variation in her play. She has had much more variation here.

Now Jo's biggest single points score of the year.

Her SF 185 points beats her Nottingham International RU 180 points.

Well, it took her a while to get going this year but we got there in the end

Great to see Jo end the season well. Sets her up very nicely for a positive off season.
