So what does this mean for the ITF rankings? Are they going to disappear again? Is this the full abandonment of the whole farcical double points system arrangement?
It also means there is going to be a massive realignment of rankings again come August, with many players reappearing once more on the WTA and ATP lists... So the whole argument about reducing the number of 'professional' players is being abandoned as an unnecessary curtailment on players freedom to have a go, if they so desire..
What purpose do they really serve now? As it stands, though, they are still there for the reserved ranking slots in the higher event main draws. But it doesn't make sense....it's just duplication, apart from at the very lowest end (i.e. the quali rounds for 15ks)
And, yes, almost amusing that the argument to curtail them to reflect economic reality (which it never did, as you'd have had to go down to about 250) has just gone out the window
To provide continuity to players, ITF ranking points will be awarded in $15,000 and $25,000 qualifying rounds and a player's ITF ranking will continue to be valid for acceptance purposes after ATP or WTA ranked players.

Well, this is just face saving, to avoid having to acknowledge, although it's obvious now, that the whole think has been a giant, farcical failure. The ITF points for these q rounds are negligible, so people will end up with 20 ITF points, once the higher level points fall away (and they haven't said when that will happen. Whether they will allow existing ITF points to stand until they naturally fall away, or just remove all the ITF points which are replaced by WTA points). Whatever they do, the ITF points will disappear altogether by the year end, and let's hope, that is indeed that for now with the wholly misconceived dual ranking system.
So that means the new WTA/ATP points for 15ks and 25ks for men are definitely INSTEAD of the ITF points? No two-tier system like in the 25ks at the moment?
Which makes sense (coz as Michael says we're just going back to the old way). But really.....
Love the 'to provide continuity' - are they having a laugh?
