Thanks both.

So that means the new WTA/ATP points for 15ks and 25ks for men are definitely INSTEAD of the ITF points? No two-tier system like in the 25ks at the moment?

Which makes sense (coz as Michael says we're just going back to the old way). But really.....

Love the 'to provide continuity' - are they having a laugh?

RS can clarify that point CD, I'm not wholly sure, but let's face it, if they award both types of points at these levels, no-one is going to pay much attention to the lower currency points. Maybe they will play a little role in q draw entries at 15k level, but can't really see that being significant for long.

It doesn't say whether they will continue to award ITF points for main draw matches, but for men it doesn't really matter as winning a main draw match will give them an ATP ranking and any ITF ranking they have won't be used for any purpose as far as I can see. The ITF points aren't going away as they will be awarded to a new "more affordable level of development tournament" below 15K that is under review will open a pathway for those "from college tennis and other pathways, to progress to professional tournaments".

Well, if they open up a better pathway to 15k level, that certainly would be a more useful purpose than they currently serve.

I imagine someone is currently working out the admin but once the points get put on in August where would that leave the likes of Hoyt, Draper Mchugh etc in the rankings?

Don't know how much longer this will matter (if it does much now, but....)

Ryan P zooms into the top 100, and Lloyd into the top 50

Top 100 ITF rankings

28 HOYT, Evan -1
48 GLASSPOOL, Lloyd +18
56 DRAPER, Jack -3
68 PENISTON, Ryan +41

There are also other half-decent rises lower down for several of our guys.

Has anyone seen a shadow rankings table? Just wondering as I think there were a few around for when the ITF tournaments were losing atp points. Just wondered if there is one for going the other way.

Use OER and go to the 05/08 forecast.

Points are slightly different - but if they'd left the same they'd look like a bunch of idiots wink

From the press release - still not sure what it means.
"
To provide continuity to players, ITF ranking points will be awarded in $15,000 and $25,000 qualifying rounds and a players ITF ranking will continue to be valid for acceptance purposes after ATP or WTA ranked players. Three reserved places in $15,000 tournaments for ITF top 100-ranked juniors will continue to facilitate entry into professional tennis for the best-performing players at junior level."

"Subject to consultation with National Associations and key stakeholders, a new more affordable level of development tournament is currently under review for introduction below the ITF World Tennis Tour, between $15,000 tournaments and the ITF Junior Circuit, to ensure players from as many countries as possible have the opportunity to join the player pathway. These tournaments will offer ITF ranking points and enable all players, including those from college tennis and other pathways, to progress to professional tournaments based on results."

I've also updated the chart from March 18th for the lower ranked Brits.

I'm guessing that all the players who had won ITF ranking points for quali wins were up in arms at losing all their points (even if they were pretty meaningless points).

So it's a reasonable compromise - let them keep their 'baby' points, and let new players also earn 'baby' points. And those can count for something (at the bottom of the priority list) and give players some sense of achievement.

I was more worried that out of 34 players 4 are out and 16 (excuding Gill) have not played this year.

9 have scored - but another 4 have played without scoring.

Admittedly this is the bottom of the heap but it is also the base of the pyramid.

Probably not the right place to put this but I see they are launching a new Challenger 50 level tournament for next season to bridge the gap between 25ks and challenger 80 tournaments. Sounds about right to me. 32 main draw and 24 qualifying draw.

I know this is all a bit irrelevant but while it still counts for entry to some things, just to note that young Jack Draper, not yet 18, is ITF 6.
