They played a pretty perfect second set but made a slow start to the MTB and couldn't draw level.

I think they'll be frustrated not to have taken their chances in the first as they could have won in 2, but a bit of a bonus sneaking in.

Out 7-6(4) 1-6 10-5

Emily has lost her last 7 MTBs which is a bit of a nightmare.

Pity, that sounds like they could/ should have won cry

Yes, but they played well given a very late call up and their opponents didn't miss an awful lot. Need to bring that level to the ITFs and get the ranking moving.

Looking forward to seeing how Katie gets on tomorrow

Yes and a nice QF draw to have gone further but their opponents are an established 75-100 pair and to be fair missed very little. Em needs to bring that level to 25ks and start getting her ranking up.

Looking forward to watching Katie tomorrow .

Are you in a different time zone or just a very early riser? She's first on at 4.30am tomorrow.

Pliskova in the QFs if she can get through.

Far too early for me. Sabalenka was 5-0 up in the first set of the final match when I woke up today, so it'll be a case of just finding out the result for me. Here's when you wish it was on BT so you could wake up as normal and fastforward on to her match.

Live rankings shows Katie at WR99, but that may not last long, as there are a number of players still in tournaments that can overtake her.
The 30 points from today's win replaces 9 from Obidos in April

There are but it would take some major upheavals for more than one person to go past Katie. The two immediately behind her in the live rankings, Ons Jabeur and Fiona Ferro both lost today. Next in line Lusika Kumkhum would have to beat Alize Cornet their R16 match in Hong Kong and then win her QF match too, to go past Katie (unless Katie wins two more matches herself). Further back three others still have a chance, but if Katie does not win another match, but they'd have to reach finals. Win her next match and Katie will pass a few more players and place her top 100 ranking next week beyond doubt.

The powerful Thai Khumkhum has just beaten Alize in three tough sets to reach the QF. That gives her 609 points, just 8 behind Katie cry

So of the 3 players who as of yesterday could possibly overtake Katie's live #99 ranking by reaching their SF, two ( Kumkhum and Alexandrova ) have won and Kudermetova has lost.

Katie : 617 points - in L16 in Tianjin.

Kumkhum : 609 points - in QF in Hong Kong.

Alexandrova : 546 points - in L16 in Linz.

Also still left who can pass 617 points are Hibino who would need to reach the final in Hong Kong and 4 further players who would need to win their titles.

Teichmann loses in Linz so going into Thursday we are down to a maximum of 6 separate players, but 5 in total, that can overtake Katie's live #99 617 points.

Kumkhum by reaching the Hong Kong SF

Alexandrova by reaching the Linz SF

Hibino by reaching the Hong Kong Final or McHale by winning the Hong Kong title ( they are in the same quarter )

Gasparyan by winning the Linz title

Doi by winning the Tianjin title

Now if Katie wins her L16 match and moves to 647 points that in itself will almost certainly be enough for the top 100 deed.

If that happens she will pass at least 3 who are currently above her and while as of now still 5 could overtake her ( McHale being the only one that would lose that possibility ) that would mean the very worst she could end up on Monday is WR 101 if she lost her QF match and all these other 5 above did what was necessary. And that's nae happening ...

I am so pleased to see Katie B finally surely making that top 100 slot - Indiana's stats on how she has fared against top 100 players this year makes for fascinating reading and emphasises I think, that she is already easily good enough for the top 100, but that maybe she needs to improve her game quite a bit to beat those in the top 30 or so.

Anyway it has been such a successful season for her and will presumably mean many more big top tournaments next season, which will mean she hones her game further to make strides at the top level, and playing the top players regularly will surely benefit her game hugely, as she will be able to see what is working and what is not, and which bits of her game need working on to further improve

Happy days - anyway marvellously well done this year Katie, and hopefully too, Harriet, Katie Swan and Gabi can follow her into the top 100 next year.

Just looking at the schedules, top 100 could be guaranteed after the opening 2 Thursday matches in Tianjin.

If Katie beats Krejcikova on Court One and Misaki Doi loses to Bacsinszky on Centre then Katie would be guaranteed being at least WR 100 on Monday ( and very probably end up better ).

So everyone be following from 11.30 am local, 4.30 am BST? - OK, apologies for the late notice    What do you mean 100 is just a number ...

1st set to Boults 6-3....come on Katie!!!

Not looking hopeful for Doi losing to Bacsinszky though at the moment, the Japanese girl leads 6-1 2*-1...
