L16: Cameron Norrie WR 73 beat (3) Borna Coric (CRO) WR 18 (= CH) 6-4 7-6(8)

QF: Cameron Norrie WR 73 vs (Q) Yoshihito Nishioka (JPN) WR 171

H2H 0-1 Houston 2018

I feel Nishioka deserves a mention for putting out Shapovalov, the 6th seed, in 3 sets. Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 2nd set, also lost today.

Cam and Denis Kudla have given a w/o in their doubles QF. Hope all is well with Cam.

Ah, the drawsheet say Kudla - forearm injury, so no doubt that or Cam wants less work.

From a set and 5-2 up and serving for match, Andy is struggling to see this match out.

Now *5-4 30-40

L16:  (WC) Andy Murray WR 311 defeated (1) David Goffin (BEL) WR 11 by 3 & 4

A relatively comfortable win, judging by the scoreline.  Where does that leave him rankings-wise?

Well done Andy - livescores for me, so no idea how well he played, but it can't have been too shabby!

That win puts him around 260

So If Norrie wins tomorrow does he get an SE into Beijing?

To answer my own question this is the list (in order) of potential SE's for next week (only 2 available 1 in each event)

Ebden - Will probably get in direct
Sousa - plays Jaziri
Fritz - plays Querrey
Jaziri - plays Sousa
Herbert - plays Ramos
Norrie

So winner of Sousa/Jaziri will get 1 + 1 more

Looks like there are/were 9 candidates for one SE into each of Tokyo/Beijing. Cam is the 6th highest ranked, but a win might be enough.

Just wasnt sure, does getting to a 250 Semi get you an SE for a ATP500 event? Do they trade up...I have no idea, just wondering?

Bet Eleven Sports are happy they picked up coverage of this from the QF onwards, 2 Brits in those 4 matches and a chance for an all GB semi final and thus, a potential guaranteed finalist.

A good win, though potentially tempered a little if Goffin was jetlagged (/hungover? confuse) from Laver Cup.

My favourite thing about it though was Andy's muted response despite that stressful final game, in stark contrast to his reactions in Washington. I get that sense that he's hungry for more and that he's wants to treat making a QF as business as usual from now on

QF: (WC) Andy Murray WR 311 vs (5) Fernando Verdasco (ESP) WR 28 (CH = 7 in 2009)

Head to Head: 13-2 but of course Verdasco won not that long ago in 4 sets at the US Open and even when Andy is fit, Verdasco is a tricky player.

I do recall that friendly encounter at the US Open. Might add a little spice to the occasion tomorrow.
