Ewan Moore is the American Athletic Conferences player of the week playing No 1 for Tulane who qualify for the National Indoor Tournament for the first time. He is 2-0 instrumental in wins against Tennessee and Florida State both nationally ranked #18 and #19. Hamish Stewart is playing No 3.
Cal had a tougher weekend Jack Molloy (No 3) unfinished and Ben Draper (No 6) loosing in their defeat to Birginia. Aswin Lizen (No 5) was on the winning side but lost at No 5.
Its not from a supporters perspective, when its close ie the teams well matched the match builds to quite a climax generally you start watching the best players but as things evolve the support begins to move between courts with the players who have won or lost their games moving on to support their team mates in the one that matters. A very different spectacle to going to a singles or doubles tournament particularly if you can go to a conference tournament and watch the teams progress, with the seeded teams coming in later.

I guess it's a bit like the Ryder Cup final day ( if not quite the scale of event! ) which is very much about the team result for both.
But the remaining American players on course have at times seemed particularly willing to virtually concede asap, I think maybe have on occasions before the natural end of their match.
And to be fair, after the match result is known, with again similarly loads of people trying to get to the decisive matches, and the instant celebrations, the remaining matches are a bit of an anti climatic after the Lord Mayor's Show.
Most non-conference matches are played out in full. A lot of it is also down to time. Long distances can be travelled and to stay around for dead rubbers when planes need to be caught or students need to be back for studies makes perfect sense. Can be harsh on someone on a commanding position who then doesnt get the win but overall its a good policy. The no-ad bit also makes sense but is a bit alien compared to normal tennis!!
A lot of French team tennis doubles doesn't get finished - hardly ever the singles because the result is usually still in question until the doubles and players want their singles point.
But the doubles almost automatically stops as soon as the match itself is won (i.e. if the dubs on the other court wins and that's it).
Travel is one reason but the other is everyone goes into manic party mode - they've won (or lost)! So no one wants to hang around slogging out a match that doesn't matter when they could be celebrating/commiserating in the bar.....
Paul Jubb was South Carolinas player of the week at the AO, they lost 4-0 but not Paul at the No1 slot honours even in his match up with Brandon Holt and walked off in Doubles. Looks like he is worth his no 16 ranking!
The Mens Indoor Championships starts today at Illinois. There is live streaming and I hope the following link will take you there. There are three teams playing today involving Brits
Texas Christian - 9am (UK 3 pm)
Notre Dame - 12 noon (UK 6 pm) **
Tulane - 3.30pm (UK 9.30 pm)
Hope I've done the time conversions OK - they are 6 hours behind
Just noticed that Old Dominion women are playing Louisiana State today - and the top singles match is Holly Hutchinson v Eden Richardson.
ODU have been in fine form recently, and have made the NCAA top 20 for the first time in their history.
It just shows the gulf between the different conferences. Great for Eden getting to play such a tough schedule. Georgia and Vandy being the two standout teams in conference, along with Texas and Stanford out of conference stand apart.
Paul Jubb (Now #4!!!!!!!!!!!) and University of South Carolina kicked off their SEC programme with a 4-2 loss. Hopefully Conor will add some depth next year, Paul won his singles and his doubles was still going when the Hogs won the point.
Also in the SEC Eden Richardson (#15) played no 1 winning singles and doubles in LSUs (#12) 4-0 rout of Alabama. British Freshman Anna Louglan (JCH 137) did not feature so some depth there.
Stanford Women #4 play Texas #9 but dont play in conference PAC 12 for another week. Emily Arb will probably play no 4 again and she is ranked #19 nationally! Now that is a very deep roster for the reigning NCAA champions.

Dan will have plenty of opportunities playing No 1 at Utah against all the other PAC 12 schools, tough match ups but like Paul a schedule that could deliver a top national ranking.
Alistair is playing No 2 at TCU behind Alex Rybakov ranked nationally at No 8, so he wont get the opportunities to play many top 20 players
Charlie Broom has a less challenging schedule from here on in with Ivy League tennis to look forward to although Columbia are in the top 25 and their no 1 Jack Daniel ranked No 10
