A thing I notice whenever doing draw details and if you look at others' draws is how far many players in other countries are off their CHs and most often not because they are now particularly old. Another indication I think of fluctuation, certainly from one period to another throughout tennis.
I think 15 yr olds in these conditions are allowed to be inconsistent, although two QF in 2018 on very different surfaces reflects a degree of impressive consistent inconsistency. Hasnt happened since Laura and she still has potentially 12 attempts to win a junior slam.
Exactly right as she turns 16 in November. My mistake, but plenty of opportunity ahead. It is the pattern of repeated progression in elite level tournaments that is encouraging on a background of rapid adaptation to and progression at 15K.
Kevin Mitchel in yesterdays times referenced Laura as the last time a British junior had achieved so consistently at this level, I see more similarity with Kyle (obviously not in respect to doubles where his record was outstanding) but more in terms of being there or there abouts in singles consistently with a focus on and dedication to practice and incremental improvement. Less banged up here than at Wimbledon Juniors? There, she had played plenty of very high level womens tennis in the run, up a real step up from 15K, plenty of opportunity but difficult to listen to your body and step back when carrying the odd knock. Overall in terms of facilitating transition to adult Tennis I think the balance was about right in terms of the wildcards offered. Here she was probably sapped by her performance in the previous round. At 15 that is not a bad thing perhaps a marker of common sense? Hopefully no drips and emergency intravenous rehydration in the juniors?
I think she has had a really good year which has been really enjoyable to follow, a nice balance of consistent winning and being pushed to the max in defeat, plenty of excellent experience at 15, not only in terms of playing but also in terms of managing the workload to learn from for the future.

I thought I read she was turning pro and this was going to be her last junior tourney?
That was the unofficial report after Wimbledon - her tournament schedule has certainly suggested moving from juniors to concentrate on Pro tournaments. Even so Emma may be tempted to take a wildcard if needed into Wimbledon, and if she achieves a high enough Pro ranking she would theoretically have the option of entering other slams, like a few others who have quit the junior tour have done, though I guess Wimbledon would be the only one to tempt.
Boys doubles SF
Musetti/Zeppieri (ITA) v Andreev/Matusevich (BUL/GBR)
Meanwhile in the singles Lorenzo Musetti progressed, thus knocking Jack down to 8th in the Chengdu Masters race, which means an alternate position as there is a Chinese boy well placed for the optional WC 8th position
Given where we are in the season and her age, it wouldn't do any harm to continue to mix junior and pro events, work hard in the offseason, play the Aus Open juniors and then transition more to seniors, taking a wildcard into Wimbledon juniors if needed.
What's the definition of pro? She has officially earned $10,321 this year.
Emma is a pro in that she announced she was turning pro in the sense of not going to college and taking the senior tournament money. There are money limits for college players.
I think in this instance, as sometimes, "pro" was being interchanged with senior tournament play.
Anton & Adrian lost the first set 6-4 but were 3-1 up when they stopped for rain a few minutes ago.
The boys final will be Lorenzo Musetti against Aidan's conqueror Thiago Seyboth Wild - who willovertake Jack if he wins the final. Clara Burel has gone on to win a third set tiebreak to reach the girls final.
What a great result for Anton and his partner, another of our juniors given a Wimbledon Qualifying wildcard showing significant progress. Very pleased for him and a pretty good week for Kent junior Tennis. Up against two US boys in the final he will get the opportunity to dig out a win in a hostile atmosphere. At 17 he still had another crack at all the slams next year.
