Other events - week 34

I have just seen that Arthur Féry (born 2002) seems to have switched nationality and is now playing for GBR??

So says the ITF entry list this week in the French Grade 4 ITF event.

Arthur was much touted in France as a 11-13 year-old. His dad is/was President of Lorient FC, his mum is Olivia Gravereaux, ex 225 WTA. And I believe he's always played for France. (He plays a lto of tournaments out there and is often in the French tennis press so it's just possible that I assumed he played for France. But he made an ITF final in May and I'm pretty sure he wasn't GB then or I'd have noticed him (the drawsheet for the event now says he was but I think when the nationality changes, it does so retrospectively too).

But I know he's based in London/Wimbledon (because seemingly his dad works there?) and he speaks perfect English - there's a youtube interview with him by our forumite who does the excellent British Tour coverage, Londontennistube (talking of which, it might be just how it comes over, so sorry if I'm wrong, but I think you might be a little confused about tenniseurope events, Londontt, it's not just Tarbes and the Petits As, there's tons of events, a huge circuit - message me if you want, similarly for the domestic French events he's talking about).

Anyway, assuming I'm not confused re the switch, welcome Arthur, to the GB tennis ranks and good luck

Arthur played his first ITF earlier this year, and was listed as British at the time ( see britishtennis.activeboard.com/t64393248/boys-girls-itf-oslo-open-indoor-hard-grade-4-week-8/ ) and also in the ITF final you refer to ( britishtennis.activeboard.com/t64672600/boys-girls-tirana-open-u18-albania-hard-grade-5-week-22/ ) . There are other references to him as British at an earlier age in Tennis Europe U14 events. Thanks for the background information though.

THanks for that, David.

I did wonder if I got confused..... my records had gone a bit AWOL

And he seems to come up as French in a lot of the French different sites.

But obviously a rather false alert on my part disbelief

However, good luck to him whatever ! smile

And, yes, his sporting background is interesting......

Another very good win for Oscar sees him into the final, which is already his best G4 result. He's been having a good summer, some reasonable adult showings, as well as his double in Poland. Another young 2001-er:

Latvia, G4:

SF: Oscar WEIGHTMAN (GBR) [7] 2-6 6-2 6-0 Nikita KASHIRIN (RUS) [3]
