It's using the same background systems and server tech that runs the massively popular Twitch video game streaming site (which Amazon now own).
That routinely handles 1440p @ 120+ fps to millions of concurrent users.
Or: good, robust.
Forgive my ignorance , so the US Open is not even being shown on Eurosport? And one can only watch the matches on Amazon? And if I sign up for prime how do I get the matches on the TV?

Yes, it's a rather old-fashioned exclusive deal it seems, like when Sky first started all those years ago, and bought football in its entirety. You can only watch it in the UK with Amazon Prime.
You get the pictures to a TV by using the Amazon Prime App, which modern 'smart' TV can download via their built-in browsers.
For older TV's you can get a set top box, or control stick that will do the same job, and they come free with a Prime subscription if you need one, but will obviously have to wait for the physical hardware to arrive in that case - though, as an Amazon Prime customer, as part of the service, you should be able to get that delivered within 24 hours at the very maximum.

Correct. Amazon have exclusive rights in U.K.
If you have a smart tv there will probably be an amazon prime app on it
Thank you both. I'll weigh the options . I've read up on the reviews and they're not particularly great - comments about limited courts bring streamed, have to watch live (which wouldn't be possible for some due to the time difference), only highlights being played back and a few comments around quality and sound too.
Have been watching on Prime since about 6pm and overall the picture quality has been fine despite competition from the two teenager in my house! I thought it was better than the coverage earlier in the year from Eastbourne which kept freezing so it looks like they have looked at that issue. Hadnt picked up on the lack of court coverage but I did read somewhere that the number of courts being streamed was increasing later in the week (although I dont think by then we will be dealing with 3 brits playing at the same time).
Obviously additional cost is a concern here as well as additional pressure on internet bandwidth but they havent had to bad a start I feel so might be worth giving it a go especially as comes with free deliveries on orders and other tv and movie options.
Btw I am watching through an Apple TV (you can download the amazon prime app and log in that way) so that might be another option if you already have one.
I'm using my TV to watch, already had prime which we used for deliveries and films etc.
Right now they've got Harrison v Anderson, about to have the opening ceremony and then Serena playing, shapo v FAA, Cam of course. Seem to have the main 3 showcourts and then what they call pick of the outside courts. Commentators on cams match, a man and a woman, quite annoying amd not v good, not sure who they are.
I think the gentleman is Arvind Parmar and a lady called sue something who has generally been poor all evening and gives the impresssion that she has not actually watched any tennis before.

ok, good to hear arvind again. Sue is sue thearle , a BBC news sports journo , done various football commentaries, presents sports round up stuff. Not impressed so far though.
Decide to buy a Firestick last night, and it arrived today. Plugged it in, set it up on the wifi, works brilliantly. Been watching for about an hour - not a stutter, good picture and sound, and so far the camera work has been really good.
With particular regard to the provision, choice, replayability, and quality of on-demand matches from all courts, DAvid Law on the Tennis Podcast today promised big improvements by the end of the first week.
Not much for the Brits as more than half our hopes have already fallen, but something at least. Apparently, the ears have been ringing at Amazon HQ about some of the sloppier aspects of the service.
