So now 10/24 this year in coming back to win after losing the first set. Very good. And she does say that being a fighter is one of her best qualities. Less work though to win in straight sets
The live ranking sites that I have looked at are agreed that live 100 is on 633 points. So Katie will need at least 2 further wins this week, making the SF, for a chance of top 100 next Monday.
Great to see Katie complete her comeback. I must admit, I was more confident of her winning from a set down than I was about Heather winning from a set up though.
Kuznetskova and Brengle are also in the running for that top 100 spot. Kutznetskova plays Svitolina later today - and it's up to Katie to stop Brengle
Svitolina beat Kuznetsova in 3 so one less in the running.
Currently 640 points for reaching the SF would take Katie to live 99.
Excluding Brengle, who is by the draw out of the equation if Katie reaches the SF ( she has a R1 match before a potential Katie meeting ), there are 3 possibilties to overtake these 640 points.
1. *Barthel in Vancouver.
2. *Rus or Frech in Vancouver ( they would meet in R2 if both get there ).
3. Anisimova in Cincinnati ( if she reached the SF there ).
* the only Vancouver final result that would see 2 from Vancouver overtake Katie SF points is Barthel beating Rus since both Barthel and Frech would need title points whereas runner up would do for Rus.
Anyway all the above is subject to that minor matter of Katie reaching the SF ( and after possibly Brengle in R2 she could meet Heather in the QF ).
It took Cam Norrie ages to break through that top 100 barrier, but once he did he shot through it. It may take Katie a little time given the relatively small increments of these 100k points (compared with those at WTA level). Anyway, she is currently at a CH live rank of 104, and so creeping up there. If she gets there this week wonderful, but otherwise she has to qualify at least for the US Open to recoup the 30 pts she gained for qualifying last year. For me what is most impressive is the improved consistency of her performances... She will get there soon enough.
Thanks for the summary Indi - I was going to look into it later when I had some spare time. It's a significant landmark, even though it may not last long as Katie has points to defend this autumn.
