Dan has recently stated that his target is to make the AO qualfiers. Two more wins here this week and he will be very close. Live rankings now at 287 - and climbing.
Yes, and if and when he gets to around the likely required ranking he's not going to significantly fall since for some reason he has no points to defend before the entry date.
Might as well keep on climbing ...

Great win, and really enjoyable game between two players who move so well and hit the ball sweetly without huge power. A real one for the purist.
Ivashka will be tough but again Dan has the recent omens on his side after victory at Wimby Qualies.
Think AO Qualies is very realistic target. After couple of dodgy weeks, this week makes the US trip worthwhile. Just hope he can keep it going, and possibility his oppo's will have one eye on US Open Qualies now, though thats probably wishful thinking.
Instinctive, almost effortless-looking play from Evans, always poised to move forward in looking to close and nearly always playing (or trying to play) the right shot. Has a touch of the Federer about him in some ways. Tennis was the loser in kicking him out for a year.
Great post very much agree that Tennis was the loser, especially when you consider what other sports stars get up to, with seemingly less consequences,
Great win Dan, glad he's got his game back this week. Always knew he would
Yes, while some of us may have been thinking he had been faltering after his early home tournaments back he did say to Mike Cation that the bad weather across the pond, most particularly in his first event in Binghamton, had not helped his transition to the North American hard courts. Great that he has made such progress in his final tournament of this trip.

I agree with almost all of the above, infact all of the above just not the Tennis was the loser in kicking him out for a year. It is still to be seen as to exactly what comes of Dan, he still has his career as a player and then that as an ex-pro to look forward to.
He did not enjoy his year out he was open in admitting his guilt and reflected on it. Tennis had a duty of care to Dan who obviously had and perhaps still has issues with what is at the very least an impulsive personality, time will tell who the winners and losers will be but I am hopeful it will be Dan who will be the winner as a result of having a year out. Great to see him return and beginning to get his beautiful game back into some sort of shape! Onwards.
Perhaps it is disingenuous of me to compare him with Ben stokes or Danny cipriani in terms of background or personality types but maybe it is right in terms of talent and the idea of living life and battling against the demands of being a professional in the public eye. Thankfully dans desire and impulsive personality never took him to the places those guys find themselves. It is also interesting and instructive that stokes (albeit found not guilty in a court of law, but we all saw the videos of what happened) and cipriani (found guilty of common assault) may suffer less professional time out than dn did with his 12 months off despite not being accused of any criminal act. Mmm.
Glad he's had a good week this week and hope it doesn't end here.
"not being accused of any criminal act". Well, he wasn't charged, but possession of cocaine is a criminal act.
But I'm glad he's winning again.
That's disingenuous.
Innocent until proved guilty.
Not proved guilty, not even charged, therefore innocent of possession of cocaine.
And you don't know whether legally he 'possessed' cocaine or not.
There's actus reus and mens rea, there's defences, a trial requires (quite rightly) a whole heap of requirements, as well as due process.
If the prosecution did not even bring the case that means they are not confident of a conviction.
Therefore, Dan has committed no criminal act, it's the basis of our whole legal system.
NB As said often, I have no doubt that he's going to get it back together, never did. Just as long as he gets to exactly ATP 115 by the end of the year - my predictions lie in the disaster zone at the moment.....
Hang on, I've not said he's committed a criminal act, or that he should have been charged with one. But to say he's not been "accused" of a criminal act, when he's admitted to cocaine use is more "disingenuous" than anything I've posted.

As said, the fact of using cocaine does not, in and of itself, make you guilty of the crime (mens rea, defences etc.). Much less 'accused'. So Evo admitting using it is only one part of what is needed to be guilty of the crime. So it is correct for Jonh to say that he has not been accused of a criminal act (unlike the other sportsmen listed).
PS of course, ethically and morally, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

On a different note, curious that Dan, who's played so few matches this year, gets to play Fabbiano (beat him at Surbiton) and now Ivashka (beat him at Wimbly qualis)
