Week 33 - Challenger - Odlum Brown Van Open, Vancouver, Canada ($100,000) (hard)

Vancouver is proving a great tournament for GB this week. Brilliant win for Dan - resilient and good tactical play. Personally I hope he continues to chase points and doesn't take part in the DC tie, although I'd also be happy to see him as I have tickets for this meaningless farce.

"Stayin' Alive" blares out, quite appropriate for the Brit!

The funny part was the guy heard trying to sing along and who didn't know any of the other words.

 Seriously??? Where's he been all his life ? (Or maybe this was a 'baby' guy who still hasn't lost his milk teeth, musically).

Great to go back and read all the posts - and great for Dan too ! biggrin

That was brilliant, woke up with a smile on my face. Amazing to think that he struggled to qualify and now he's in the final, playing at a good level again now. And it's been a real tough path to the final.

Paul --> Escobedo-->Fabbiano--> Ivashka--> Pospisil

All of those are decent standard opponents he's had to get past to reach the final. Getting through the rankings gets harder and harder as you get higher obviously, but should definitely make AOQ with another couple of wins, and if he stays fresh every chance of being well inside Top 200 by year end which would be huge achievement.

Really hope he can beat Kubler and actually take a pot home with him, but its been a great week either way.

For the record, as it doesn't appear to have been recorded yet:

*****

Final:  (Q) Daniel Evans WR 310 vs (4) Jason Kubler (AUS) WR 109 (CH = 105 last month)

I've just watched it back and I am convinced that Steven is correct.  It was only very brief, but it was definitely a bit of "umpire karaoke" during the break between the 2nd and 3rd sets.

It's a shame Dan's push is so late in the the day for the USO, if it had been abit more consistent I would have fancied his chance and a QWC given his history there. A good run nevertheless and a firm platform to build on for the rest of the year.

 Yes, mine won't come up either.

(Brits lost the first set 4-6 but seem to be making a comeback in the second, up *3-1)
