Maia has pulled out of her doubles match (at least, I assume it was her and not her partner), so presumably she wasn't completely healthy and that might explain why her singles loss was quite so abject.
Lissey Barnett is going well in her singles vs Ella Taylor, so yes, the wd is because of Maia. It's a relief in a way to know that the double bagel against her today was down to carrying an injury and not just poor performance, but hope she is able to recover soon.
Hmm, seems like live scores is knackered again so TA's updates would have been even more appreciated. Beth did lose the first set 5-7 after breaking back.
No idea how Jodie is currently fairing or the am GB tie.
Lissey won 2 & 2.
Beth just lost her serve 2-3* - this could go either way.
Ula in a battle on the next court - high quality.
And it's spitting with rain again
Yes, good draw and win for Lissey, which she also needs to cover the points she has coming off next week for reaching the L16 at Woking last year.
Now she and Sam will meet for the prize of reaching the QF. They are very similarly ranked at the moment, so it will be an interesting match.
Sam looks very good, and was almost home when I walked past. Emily not having a good day - the better player, but still lost badly. She has the usual support team with her.
Thanks for the reports. Enjoy your day.
Though re Emily Appleton that result didn't seem a great surprise ( although a disappointing scoreline ) based on the rankings and Emily's general results, even with her title as #1 seed in Ireland last week. And while pleased she finally got that singles title I wasn't hugely impressed with the performance I saw as against where she no doubt wants to be.
In what sense(s) do you say she was the better player ?
