Week 32 - ITF ($25K) - Chiswick, GBR - Hard

Yes, I thought we might only get two wins today, so to get Lissey + Sam and Jodie is a bonus.

And I was also wondering about that line about Emily App being the better player. She was certainly beaten easily in the end, and seemingly without any second set fight. I imagine though that she is rather jaded at this point, and hope she does take a couple of weeks off now to recharge. In many ways, I'd rather Sasha Hill had been given the opportunity to play here this week, since given one single opportunity last week proved she can indeed compete on the ITF tour.

Emily had a better range of shots, seemed to be striking the ball well, but as the match wore on had more and more trouble getting the ball over the net and between the lines. No doubt her support team (who videoed the match) will have a puzzle to sort out.

Beth had another of those matches. Very competitive, didn't win the important points or enough of the long rallies.

Same with Ula as it happens, on the next court.

Only saw a few points of Jodie's match it was on at the same time as Beth. But the last point to win the match was fabulous- hope it was streamed but not sure - there were a camera on each of the three top courts. Jodie was probably the best of the 16 players that I saw at least a couple of games of.

Have had to leave before the end, two hour journey home across the city in the rush hour.

Well done Jodie and Sam. Was bit worried for Jodie because sometimes its hard to come back after losing the second set.

That is a massive CH best win from Jodie - her previous best was here last year, as a LL in round one, she beat Julia Wachaczyk, WR387.
She's almost halved that mark to WR207 defeating a fine player in Cagla, albeit one in a bit of a slump and more at home on clay.
First top 300 win, why not make it straigh into top 250 win whilst you're at it well done

Sam's best win since November

Its a pity for Fran  to draw the number one seed. Could have been an opportunity to play someone, say, top 250 as shes doing well in 15ks, so a slightly better player might have been more of a learning experience But someone nearly top 100, just too big a jump up.

In the doubles

Two 18yo unseeded Brits, Danielle Daley & Aleksandra Topalovic, have given a good account in set 1 againist two seasoned veterans (Ekshibarova/Pivovarova) 5-7
Emily Arb & Jodie are currently 6-3 4-2 up on the French third seeds
Soumeya & Tiffany are 1-3 against Smitkova/Vrljic

Emily App & Pemra Ozgen defeated Iman & Martina, 2 & 1
Alicia & Maia gave a W/o to Moratelli/Eklund - perhaps illuminating Maia's singles result.
Freya & Sam beat Camille (& MIyazaki), 0 & 3

Not sure what was wrong with Maia - she seemed to be moving OK, so perhaps it was illness. She didn't look particularly happy before the match either.

Tough for Alicia, who is playing well at the moment. I had a brief word with her earlier in the day - she's definitely giving it a go full-time now, so we'll see how she progresses.

Having said this earlier I see now that Emily is top of the entry list to play a 15k in KOREA next week confuseconfusenodisbelief

Well at least it is hard outdoor court, and not another change of surface. Clay, carpet, grass, carpet and hard court over the space of five consecutive weeks cannot help. Despite the scoreline, I didn't think she looked jaded, just missing the lines A LOT !

Really ought, as you say, to take a couple of weeks off.

Emily has been in the sometimes lucky position to have quite a lot of choices as she moves forward. Trouble with choices can be that the wrong ones are made. I do hope she isn't put under / feel undue pressure ( clearly that maiden ITF titles last week came as a relief ) and that her tennis can develop well over the coming important years while she is still relatively so young.
