Week 32 - ITF ($25K) - Chiswick, GBR - Hard

Jodie a bit lazy on her backhand at times, dumping several from mid court half way down the net through not getting down enough and maybe wrong feet position, but then hits some lovely backhand winners too from mid court to the down the line corner, often when more difficult placed. Her range of shots is good and general ball striking too, but her opponent is playing better this set and has hit some good winners too, with less errors. Went a break up against Jodie in the second set, Jodie now missed 2 BPs to pull it back, one through another careless bh dump in the net, and Bassols holds, 6-3 *1-4

Jodie going the distance again 6-3 2-6 0-0*

Noise from the next court ceased as the greek retires.
Beth's conqueror Vrljic has been dumped out 1 & 1 by the 4th seed.

*4-3 edging closer, but service hold is becoming harder

Beth and Olivia have started, but not on a streamed court - although videostream are showing a different (empty) court with the score on screen !

Lovely 3rd set come back from Jodie, she played much more tightly there again and from 0-2 she pulled it back to win the final set 6-3, and the match 6-3 2-6 6-3.
One comment I should make is on Bassols sportmanship, which was impressive. There were a few times Jodie aced her or beat her with a good winner in the corner on critical points, and she just immediately crossed to the next court, or since one of the winners in the corner was a crucial BP to Jodie, just kept on walking to her chair with no gestures, racket waving or self-fulminations.

In terms of next matches Jodie plays Diatchenko the top seed, Sam potentially a more equal one against Pemra Ozgen.

On rankings, Jodie's 9 pts here is her second highest counter, the only one higher being her 12pts from a 15k win in Sharm in April. However next week she will only be +4 as she has 5 pts coming off for a L16 result at Woking last year. Sam is still -4 down for her two weeks though, as although she now has 10 this week matched against 9 last year for Chiswick, she also won a match at Woking last year, whereas she didn't last week.

R2: BURRAGE, Jodie Anna (GBR) WC 503 beat BASSOLS RIBERA, Marina (ESP) 436 CH=422 16/7/18  6-3 2-6 6-3
R2: MURRAY, Samantha (GBR) Q 516 beat BARNETT, Alicia (GBR) Q 535  6-1 6-3

Jodie really seems to be coming on, especially with her movement. Great to see.

Happy for Sam, too

Well done Jodie.
That's the first time she's ever beaten two top 500 players in the same week, and she's done it back-to-back

NIce to have them back. Seems like a while since they were together (purely from memory - I haven't actually checked though)
