Lets hope so ABB. Now double break 5-1 for Jo but 0-15.

Ostapenkos coach tries reverse psychology: basically if you dont want the win, then thats down to you! Harsh!

But fair!
Aliona is having one of her sets of sulky high dudgeon.
She can keep that up as far as I'm concerned

Yes, I agree! And Jo does take the second set.

Jo didn't do much really, Ostapenko just went walkabout.

Trouble with playing Ostapenko in this mood is, she can come alive again at any moment without cause, and then you won't see the ball again for who knows how long, as it's just smashed past you to all corners at impossible angles.
There are signs of Latvian awakening, but they exchange breaks, Jo DF to surrender the advantage, 2-2*

Jo breaks again, to love, she won two of the points with decent returns forcing errors, but Ostapenkos shot selection: questionable.
Let's hold this time, shall we?
*3-2

Yes! Consolidates. Some sloppy wayward FH from Ostapenko, Jo taking it on second Adv.
Edging closer...
4-2*

A Latvian DF, gives Jo a BP... 40-30*
A short second serve, cross-court, clean BH winner from Jo.
Close out, nice and clean now.
*5-2

Closes it out on the first MP with a cracking Ace out wide
Jo's best ranking win since Cincinnati last year, when she also beat WR11 (Cibulkova), she last betterd it at Wimbledon last year (Halep, WR2)
She did really well to stay even whilst Ostapenko was blowing hot cold, and sour.
Not a pretty match by any means, but a good match tough comeback win. Quite the trouncing in the last two sets in fact!
Well done Jo
6-7(6) 6-1 6-2

Good confidence booster for Jo. Her serve improved as match progressed and she seemed to be making fewer errors, although difficult to tell at times as Ostapenko was making so many towards the end. Well done for keeping it together!

Not the best level of match. Jo not great in the first set, and Brat just not great.
Still a W is a W, so well done Jo. It's great that she is getting closer to the form that took her to WR4 again. I hope she can build on this.

I do though get the feeling that Aliona might just be the reincarnation of Lucrezia Borgia - not the real one, the apocryphal one of legend. In centuries past, that glare could have condemned hundreds to grisly fates!
