Great to see Freya qualify and I really hope to see her get back to the form of two years ago imminently but she faces a battle.
Having received Bakery products at the hands of this years NCAA champion Astra Sharma in Winnipeg she now faces Francesca Di Lorenzo (20), an even more classical example of the level you have to be at in college to make WTA transition likely, the no 1 recruit from HS nationally, she played two years in a very strong power conference programme, ITA indoor singles champion twice. Top ranked NCAA player at end of her sophmore year and NCAA doubles champion. Quit at end of Autumn term as a junior to go pro after US Open M.D. wildcard in Sept 2017.
Great to see the two qualify. Encouraging wins for them both and the 5pts very useful. Sam has quite a fall in points this coming week, so recovering these 5 will be very helpful to her, Freya too of course who also needs a confidence boost. Hope they can perform at least against their first round opponents.
Has Freya turned a little corner? Coming through qualifying was a good step.
In the early exchanges, she's gone and broken Di Lorenzo now, too, which is another good step.
It has been a long period of injury and otherwise hibernation of form, but are there signs of stirring? Green shoots?
Let's go Ms. Christie!
