I think Gemma's treatment by the LTA is a disgrace but sad to say she's just the latest in a very long line of players to suffer in this way. For example Judy Murray revealed that when Andy went to Barcelona she asked for help with the costs but was refused point blank and had to fund it herself. And then more recently Dan Evans was also denied a Wimby wild card despite complying with everything that had been asked of him. Just how the LTA continues to get away with squandering the Wimbledon proceeds whilst ignoring the needs of young players simply beggars belief. They paid themselves huge bonuses when we won the Davies cup even though the success most definitely wasn't down to them. We can only hope that in years to come after Andy has retired, he can somehow get involved and change the culture from within. Meanwhile we all wish Gemma the best of luck and hope she can at least find a way to enjoy her tennis.

I totally agree that Gemma's treatment by the LTA is an absolute disgrace. My heart goes out to Gemma and her family who must be devastated at being deliberately excluded from the greatest junior tournament in the world. I do hope she is able to pick herself up and effectively stick two fingers up to the LTA by doing as well as possible in the future.

But unless the LTA's appalling treatment of some of our bright prospects ( and their blatant favouritism towards the privileged few..eg Holly Fischer being given a wildcard into Ladies Qualies despite never having played a senior event) is brought into the public domain, then they will continue their awful behaviour.

Like many tennis parents I have had good reasons to complain about the LTA, but it wasn't until I started reading this forum that I realised just how badly so many of our up and coming players are being treated  and I really do think it is high time that the great British Public were made aware of this. Surely there must be someone on this forum who knows an investigative  journalist who could bring this out into the open..otherwise we will still be complaining about this for many years to come

I do wonder if it is some sort of thrill to play God with the lives and potential careers of aspiring tennis players, a God often seemingly with little empathy.

The big thing I agree as has been said, though must be difficult, is for players, family and support to do what they think is right, stand up for themselves but don't descend into war with the LTA or importantly cut off their noses to spite their faces - 'do a Broady'. This God can change again when suits - and both ways, which is something some in favour just now have to build into their thoughts going forward.

And a big big question is what steps is Scott Lloyd taking to change some of that awful favouritism culture or is he going to be sucked in like seemingly others before?

Briton Joanna Garland (who obviously doesn't wish to be connected to the LTA coz she plays for TPA) has just won her R1 match easily.

Sorry, I'm not Tennyson.

"The old order changeth yielding place to new And God fulfills himself in many ways  Lest one good custom should corrupt the world.
Comfort thyself: what comfort is in me I have lived my life and that which I have done May he within himself make pure but thou If thou shouldst never see my face again Pray for my soul. More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of."

The old order changeth not wink

I think that young Cori Gauff made her ITF debut here only 12 months ago.

She's only just 14, born 2004.

And only played about 10 events in total.

But she waltzed this event - winning the final in style and only dropping one set all week.

She is an amazingly slim, strong, athletic girl, and, as reported, playing in real style, far better than Whitney O, this week.

Congrats to her.

Just to remind people - the junior events are great, free events to see the next generation. The stars of tomorrow are all there and nearly always clearly stand out.

Go see a junior event !smile
