Girls: Junior International Roehampton, grass - Grade 1 (Week 27)

Emma Raducanu is our only direct entrant, joined by Victoria Allen, Amelia Bissett, Danielle Daley, Holly Fischer, Fran Jones, Destinee Martins and Nell Miller on wildcards. Qualifying starts tomorrow (draw at https://www.itftennis.com/juniors/tournaments/tournament/info.aspx?tournamentid=1100041262 ) but several of our top 10 ranked are missing - Erin Richardson, Esther Adeshina, Anna Loughlan and Ali Collins - while Gemma Heath (second highest junior rank) is surprisingly in qualifying (perhaps because of lack of recent tournaments)

Gemma Heath's mother did post on here a few weeks ago that Gemma is no longer flavour of the month with the LTA and has basically been unceremoniously dropped. So this presumably is the net effect of that. Daft she didn't get a wildcard though, view her ranking.

Didn't get WC Not through lack of tournaments.. Gem left JTC to concentrate on studying and to have a breather! She was pushed to extreme last year! Obviously this was not appreciated but Gem's well being and happiness is our priority. I'm glad to say she is much happier now :)

All the best to Gemma. Their have been some very complimentary comments on her game and prospects from posters who have seen her live in the past.

Thanks Sharon - being in the right environment is very important and I hope Gemma's happiness continues to grow.  On court it seemed to be a good day for her today winning 1 & 2.

Tanysha had a good win over the 9th seed (ranked just outside 100) but the four girls left will have to beat a top 100 player to qualify.

FQR

(3) Hong Yi Cody Wong (HKG) v (14/WC) Sasha Hill

(5) Federica Sacco (ITA) v (10) Gemma Heath

(6) Daria Frayman v Tanysha Dissanayake

(7) Daniella Dimitrova (BUL) v (15) Indiana Spink

Lovely to hear, Sharon, that Gemma is in a happy place, with life and tennis.

Excuse my ignorance, but I take it that this isn't junior Wimbledon? So the juniors play two big tournaments on the trot?

It is a G1 - all Junior GS have a G1 as a warm up for the main event.

Really refreshing to hear Gemma is getting on with her studies, I watched her play at Roehampton last year when she knocked out the present junior world no 9. A smashing game of tennis.

Lots of college opportunities for anybody who gets near the world top 100 in juniors Gemma is still 16 and gone way passed that. I am sure Gemma and her family have their plans but seeing the way Eden Richardson (JCH 130) has kicked on at LSU shows its a route that can really lift your game and LSU are a bit of an unknown quantity. Vandy have lost some seniors and restocked with Georgia Drummy from Ireland (JCH 38) but will be looking for a strong recruiting class next year. Some good quality tennis to be had in the PAC 12, UCLA have recruited a couple of top indigenous juniors, Stanford are champions, Arizona State becoming a force, USC recruited well.

Playing No 1 in the SEC would be consistent with 15K standard week in week out and the later rounds of national tournaments 25k. Have to be honest excited for Nell Miller and Olivia Peet off to a very good programme at Texas Tech and Anna Loughlan who joins Eden at LSU.

Tanysha also has a lovely fluid, technically good game, very 'European' in style - you can tell she spent a long time in Spain.

Her ranking of 700 or so is obviously false but great to see her beat a girl ranked 100 or so with relative ease.

Indy's tennis has never impressed me much (especially in light of the fact that she is heavily touted by the LTA). But maybe I've seen her on off days...

Good luck to all four of them today.
