Well done Dan. Less said about Cameron the better.

I'm guessing you're a big AV supporter Villan and by definition a n Evo fan?
He did play well but is not at his highest level yet by any means. Hopefully this will return ASAP. GB need a solid Evo performance now I suspect on Sunday.

Norrie was utterly shocking-obviously thought all he had to do was turn up and his opponent would roll over. I said at the end of the third set that he would lose and sadly I was right.

The story so far:

Rubber 1:  Daniel Evans (GBR) WR 222 defeated Denis Istomin (UZB) WR 60 by 7-6(4) 4-6 0-6 6-4 7-5

Rubber 2:  Jurabek Karimov (UZB) WR 434 defeated Cameron Norrie (GBR) WR 70 by 0-6 5-7 7-6(6) 6-2 6-2  bleh

Cam, oh Cam!  You had your chances.  disbelief  Still on the DC learning curve, I guess.  But still all to play for.  If we don't win the doubles tomorrow, though, I'll fear the worst...

Dan has more natural talent than Cam I'm afraid to say. It's a shame Leon can't put Jay on to face Karimov - I mean he can but still leaves Cam to come up with the goods against Istomin. Unless it's a dead rubber, then put Jay on.

Uzbeks might actually rest Istomin tomorrow. They are well capable to win both singles Sunday on todays performance. Karimov has tur ned this tie.

It has to be said though, without this 5set 3day format, these types of games wouldn't happen..

Was Cam bad enough that sticking Jay in vs Istomin could at all be a consideration ?

I guess the hope will be the he vastly improves and that he'll probably be stuck with. Would be a bit of a step up for Jay,

I hate to admit this, but I really want Karimov to win so that the match is still live on Sunday.

Well I think you're going to get your wish, but I would just say - be very careful what you wish for.

Sadly yes, but as I understand it, we will be in the play off next year whatever the result, so it won't be great, but also not a complete disaster if we lose  the tie.

I am expecting us us to win the dubs and Dan's game though.

I'd be tempted to put Jay in to give him the experience under no pressure, I wouldn't have confidence in Cam after today. After all, he would still be GB no 1 and all the pressure that goes with it. Although not a Dan fan, he does have balls, and is playing well. Good win for him today.

It would be a big call by Leon to drop Cam for Jay in 4th rubber. It's not completely out the question though. Cam doesn't look fit to. I remember how well Kedders played on day3 against Canada last year despite struggling against Pospisil on day1. A refocus and days rest may help hugely.

I'm not saying he should? In fact in my scenario it's Dan getting dropped. It's a shame the draw has shook out the way it has. I would only put Jay in if it's a dead rubber unless Cam feels he isn't fit.

Not sure if Cam likes indoor hard courts?

I think Cam effectively capitulated, the only word for it. Until today the best ranked played Karimov had beaten was 306 (Moriya of Japan at the time), but he had won Belarus Futures a few weeks back in August and beat Jonny Gray in the final. But nothing that suggested this win. He may have played out of his skin but this was mainly about Cam falling apart. Since Los Cabos and the summer events, Cam hasnt looked good to me; I think from a confidence point of view and noting Jay wouldnt beat Istomin, Cam may as well be given another go. I am 100% certain Dan will win against karimov and that indeed we will win the doubles and all will be fine. I think.

He certainly wasn't playing his best, pressure of a home tie, 'leading' the team, low confidence coming in, indoor hard courts, and probably lots of factors only the team know about. In any case, not his best day at the office. The question is will it get any better after that five setter where he looked physically about rough by the end too.

DC does funny things, so I'm not that surprised that young Karimov has just had has best win. Look at Cam bt Bautista Agut and Wardy bt Isner in the past. I would put Jay in instead of Cam if there weren't circumstances that can be rectified by Sunday. It would be a good chance to break Jay in and as said by others too, I think we will win the dubs and other singles.

Disgraceful from Norrie. Personally wouldnt be too upset if he was permanently barred from selection for so badly letting down the British Isles. This isnt a game in the park Cameron, grow up.
