Very well played GB dubs team today. Dom much improved after last time out for GB. Grew through early sets. Superb lobs and serving by both. Both awesome at the net. Istomin now going on for 8hours on court already in a little over a day and first up tomorrow.. I'm guessing Cam will get the nod to redeem himself and deliver.

despite that dubs win, Stuart Fraser and Mike dickson both speculate that the some of the other brits in top 100 doubles may get picked going forwards

Cam now 6-2 6-2 up against Fayziev, WR 516.

Chance to redeem himself.

Well Cam is 2sets to the good again and out for toilet break and many words from Leon by the looks of it.
In the semi's:
France romp it home gubbing the Spanish 3nil.
US claw it back with Cilic losing on the dirt. 2all there but still expecting Coric to deliver on recent form.

Cam does the business against Istomin's stand-in, Fayziev, by 2, 2 & 0, bringing home the bacon in the tie.  biggrin

Not with Leon until they show themselves to be better than Jamie and/or Dom. And none are just now.

Cam seems to be sporting a 'tache as well.

Well done GB, didn't watch much of it in the end as the commies were too biased and irritating. It was a shame Istomin couldn't play, it would have been nice to see a more rounded match. I'm glad we've won though.

Got home in time to see the end of the second set. Cam looked a different player today from Friday.
Well done Cam, well done GB

The dead rubber is not being played. The guidelines certainly used to be that if the 4th rubber was straight sets the 5th rubber was played as a best of 3, presumably to give the crowd a bit more tennis. But seemingly just a guideline.

So a 2, 2 and 0 Cam victory over a stand-in is their lot.

At least Cam got a chance to turn things round today though pity Istomin wasn't able to play.

Seeded for qualifying round now, which helps.

Croatio semi is very tight, swinging one way then the other in the 5th rubber. Coric had a break but then I looked back and he'd been broken back by Tiafoe. One set each and into TB in the 3rd.

Leon on Twitter:

"Going to be very interesting to see how @DavisCup decide the wild cards for 2019 finals. Quite a few nations including ourselves merit consideration. Hopefully a very transparent and fair process. Lets see."

I cracked up at the penultimate sentence. Either he has either been celebrating a bit too much this evening or it's impressively deniable sarcasm

I heard somewhere in commentary that we couldn't get a WC as we needed a top 10 player to even be in contention for one, is that right?

No, don't think so - it says must be top 50 tennis country OR have a player in the top 10

ADD: "To be eligible for a wildcard, which gives direct entry to the finals, a team must be ranked in the top 50 of the Davis Cup nations ranking or have at least one player ranked in the top 10 of the ATP world rankings."
