Juniors playing professional senior tennis

All the girls' rankings have gone up this week, by a touch, for admin reasons
Still a very large gap in quantity, and quality, between the girls and boys

18/07/22

Junior girls with WTA singles rankings

389 - Matilda M (2004)
701 - Jasmine (2004)
721 - Talia N-G (2005)
968 - Ranah Stoiber (2005)
1121 - Mimi (2007)
1158 - Isabelle Lacy (2006)
1508 - Kristina Paskauskas (2004)

Still nine girls with WTA doubles rankings

Junior boys with ATP singles rankings

1726 - Phoenix Weir (2005)
1876 - William Jansen (2004)

Seven boys with doubles rankings

Could do with a few more boys getting ATP singles rankings.

 Yes, it's true

Although I note that other countries are often not hugely dissimilar

i.e just looking at junior boys in the ATP top 1000, we have zero, as does Germany.

Countries like Spain and Australia have one.

France is a bit of a leader, with 4.

Looking at all this from the other angle of course. Professional tennis players are competing well into their 30's now and nearly 40 which is great to see.
Gone are the days when you need to have it all at 14/15 and be world #1 at 18.
As long as our juniors are progressing well and enjoying what they do is the main thing.

Yes, that was sort of my point too
There are a lot of ways to succeed and what you're doing at age 17 is not that crucial
However, it's curious to note it

Will Jansen is continuing his good show on grass - his game suits it and it's the second year in a row that he's come into his own in the grass season

Having made R2 at the 25k at Roehampton last week, he is now:

1549 (+327) William Jansen (age 17, born 2004) (CH)

And also won his QR1 match yesterday at Nottingham

Also, welcome to Lui Maxted (2004) to the doubles rankings - having made the semis at Roehampton (with Finn Murgett), he's come in at ATP 1453

In the girls, a little shout to Jasmine (2004) for having now got into the top-700 (+4 to WTA 697)

And to Kristina Paskauskas (2004) - up 48 to WTA 1460, thanks to an extra point for having made the main draw of Roehampton

There's been some good junior play so far this week

Boys:

25k Sheffield

Patrick Brady (2004) chalked up a corker of a win over Folliot (FRA), WR 541 - and in style - 6-0 6-0

Freddy Blaydes (2005) also got a win in qualis, over WR 1119, Valsecchi (FRA)

Both of them also got wins in the doubles main draw (not together)

Girls:

15k Egypt

Talia (2006) won her R1

As did Ranah and Ella.

Ranah then won her R2. But despite two MPs, lost out in the QFs.

Talia and Ranah won R1 dubs

15k France

Kristina Paskauskas (2004) won her R1 in doubles and has qualified for the MD in singles

15k Spain

Aryana Bartlett (2005) has won two quali rounds to make the main draw

Jasmine Conway (2004) also had a very good week last week, making the semis of the 15k in Sharm (having made the QF the week before that)
