Will and Jack lost their doubles match.

But Millie picked up another super win to make the main draw as of right in Egypt.

Both Jack PJ and Millie put up good shows in their main draw R1 matches but both came up short.

However, Matilda Mutvadzic (born 2004) posted a very convincing win in Spain:

R1:- Matilda Mutavdzic (GBR) (born 2004) 1046/1354/JR12 def. Claudia Hoste Ferrer (ESP) 700/315 6-2 6-1

And another super win from Matilda

L16: Matilda Mutavdzic (GBR) (born 2004) WR 1048 (JWR 12) beat Nicole Fossa Huergo (ITA) WR 746 by 7-5 4-6 6-4

But she ended up losing in the QF to the top seed

Week 7

Jack P-J played the MD in Egypt but lost in R1 (against GB's Arthur Féry, one year older)

Millie Bissett did very well again, getting two good wins in qualis, before losing the FQR by a whisker.

22/02/21

Amelia Bisset - up 33 places to WTA 1216 (doubles). 1 pt from Sharm

I'm copying this over from the J2 thread:

Top 10 junior boys as of 13/03/21, counting adult tennis wins in 2021:

1. Holger Rune (DEN) - finalist 25k Spain, winner 15k+H France, finalist 15k Spain

2. Shintaro Mochizuki (JPN) - R2 15k Egypt

3. Martin Damm (USA) - reached QFs in 25k in Naples, FL and R2 in 15k Croatia

4. Juncheng Shang (CHN) - no activity (born 2005)

5. Bruno Kuzuhara (USA) - no activity (born 2004)

6. Pedro Dias (BRA) - no activity

7. Dali Blanch (USA) - no activity

8. Toby Kodat (USA) - Winner 15k Turkey, R2 15k Turkey

9. Alex Bernard (USA) - R2 25k Naples, FL

10. Jack Pinnington Jones (GBR) - no wins

It's obvious that Holger Rune is acing it which, maybe, as number 1 is right and fitting.

None of the others are that impressive - Toby Kodat, for instance, who won one 15k (which is great) then lost in the first round of three more 15ks.

However, Jack is the only top 10 player who has played a decent slug of tournaments and not clocked up any main draw wins.

From RedSquirrel's women's rankings list, well done to young Matilda who is +146 to WTA 855

05/04/21

855 (+146) Matilda Mutavdzic (born 2004)

As an update, for the start of Q2 2021, worth pointing out that she is the only GB junior with a ranking in women's adult WTA singles.

In the doubles, we have Millie Bissett (2003), at WTA 1230, but it's very skinny with just the two of them ....

Just to round it out, in men's ATP, we have NO (zero) boys with an adult singles ranking and only Mukhtar Andu (born 2004) with a tiny doubles ranking at 2045 and Jack Pinnington Jones (2003) at 2199.

In week 17,

Jack PJ had a MD JR place. And took advantage, winning his R1 match against a guy ranked about 900.

And then got a super win over Paul Jubb, ranked about 450

(There's a question whether Paul picked up an injury in the second set but as he carried on, it can't have been that bad, and all credit to Jack for a great win)

He's now into the QFs, and should now get his adult ranking when these wins go on.

Matilda Mut. lost her R1 match in Turkey.

But got a win in R1 of the doubles.

Jack PJ going great guns, with a brilliant 2 set win in the quarters against Navone, ranked 786

According to Indy:

"4 points from 5 main draw appearances would probably take him to around WR 1310 to 1320."

Matilda and partner lost their doubles final, but in a MTB, so very close.

Excellent week - hope she enjoyed it. And should now have a doubles ranking.

Just to note that Iman Khan (age 17) has had a go at playing adult ITFs these last two weeks, but with no success.

A pretty dire week for juniors this week.

Matilda lost a match in two sets against an unranked player with no particular formbook.

And Jack PJ lost a tight third-set TB to a player also using his JR, with a lower ranking than Jack

(However, not still juniors, but our 2002s are doing well, with wins for Felix and Arthur, so fingers crossed they can carry on and make up for it somewhat).
