Somewhere down this thread we talked about a player of the year vote in december comprising the 11 monthly winners. Given weve lost a few months , my suggestion is we have the 7 or 8 winners plus maybe 3 wildcards.

How to choose the wildcards? We could have nominations and a wildcard vote in late november and then top wildcards join the monthly winners?

A bit UK Pro Tour like?!

Other ideas welcomed?

We wait and see what happens. I am still convinced there will be a lot of cancelled tournaments between now and the end of the year.

So a reminder of the August Player of the Month plan. I had posted on this somewhere else, but cant find it and also confused matters in a post I have deleted further up.

US Open starts on 31st August until 13th September so that will be included in September this season. Similarly, the French Open starts on 27th Sept until 11th October and so will be included in October - otherwise it is too confusing and difficult!

One of the British Tour Tier 1 events starts on 31st August also and for similar reasons will be included in September (for consistency really).

August will therefore comprise:

w.c. 3rd August - UK Pro Week 5 and WTA Palermo

w.c. 10th August - UK Pro Classic Week and WTA Lexington, WTA Prague

w.c. 17th August - British Tour Tier 1, ATP Cincinnati, WTA Cincinnati, ATP Challengers in Prague and Todi, ITF events planned

w.c. 24th August - British Tour Tier 1, ATP Cincinnati (to conclusion), WTA Cincinnati (to conclusion), ATP Challengers in Prague and Trieste, ITF events planned.

As ever, during the month, if you feel someone is standing out either for performance as the month progresses or for an outstanding single week or indeed great win over a higher ranked player, then nominate them here and I will capture the list as the month progresses!!

So first winner of the month is Emily Appleton, Henry Patten or Dan Cox will join her later.

Remember, in this 4 week month, anyone can nominate players for player of month at any time, recognising it probably is too early in this first week of the month !

And Dan Cox joins Emily Appleton in the winners circle!

We are now roughly a third of the way through the month but of course relatively little tennis has played out.

With wta events this week, atp kicking in as well next week, some itf events due to start, and uk pro and british tour events continuing, remember you can nominate players of the month candidates as the days progress, at any time.

Last month, battle of brits led to an early number of nominations coming in, this month is looking likely to be more cagey!

For what it is worth, the following players have achieved wins in both the two UK Pro Series events in AUgust, week 5 and Classic week.

With the latter only 3 days old and more to play, records in August are: I am only counting non positional matches here ie group and semis, finals, not 7th/8th play offs. Meaningful matches

Naomi Broady 8 wins
Emily Appleton 8 wins
Nadia Rawson 3 wins
Eliz Maloney 4 wins

For the mens

Dan Cox 8 wins
Ryan Peniston 6 wins
Luke Johnson 4 wins
Henry Patten 6 wins
Billy Harris 4 wins

Naomi, Emily, Dan all took their August record to 9 wins in serious matches, Ryan 7 wins.

All 4 could make the semis, one or more could be close to a player of month nomination by the end of this week?

In deference to CD initially posting, and SC putting up the detail on the link below

britishtennis.activeboard.com/t66882321/stuart-parker/

Stuart Parker may well be a player we should have in mind for a player of the month nomination.

Reminder, anyone can nominate anytime - we are effectively halfway through the month this weekend and no nominations are in yet, it may feel early but it would be sad to have a month with not a single nomination!!

As always I dont plan to nominate anyone, unless I see a glaring omission (IMO!) at month end, (eg Neal Skupski last month) but I do have at least 2 players I think are very close to a nomination right now.

Jon, what are the 'rules' about nominations?

Can a person nominate more than one player?

I sort of feel Dan Cox should definitely be nominated - for tenacity, after what he's been through, and some very good results.

But he's not one of my gang of faves..... so, if it were only one nomination, I might keep it in hand....
