GB Player of the Month

So I don't get accused of any sort of bias, I am going to nominate both Kyle and Evo before they play off in tomorrow's final. Both have got there with a 100% record.

Pure tennis-wise (like actually on court) it'll be hard to beat Evo with wins over Norrie, and particularly Murray and Edmund, plus getting to the doubles final. I think it'll take a left field women to push him close. Harriet beating the likes of Maia and Eden won't really cut it, unless she win's multiple Progress/Weybridge events I guess, but if an Eden defeated players like Harriet and Katie B en route to a shock title, then relatively, that would be a big achievement and she'd be in the mix for sure.

Jamie did a smashing job organising the event, so I certainly wouldn't begrudge him taking it, and I'll be interested to see how the voting goes once we get a final shortlist.

Edit - a forgot there's a few upcoming men's British Tour events as well, so a similar surprise run there could put someone else in contention.

As we now have 4 weeks of British tour and also UK Pro Series events, worth saying that we shouldn't just default to nominating the winner of each event each week. Might be worth taking stock as the month unfolds to see which players perform well over more than one week.

Just a thought...

Just to recap that these are the nominations so far for june and July player of month.

Emma Raducanu and Arthur Fery won the British Tour events this weekend and may get to join them in due course , presumably (and quite rightly IMO) folks are holding back to see how future weeks unfold.

I'm not saying I'd vote for her, or even nominate her, but Marni could possibly be in the conversation for her exploits this week. Just 2 wins compared to Emma's (and Athurs) 4, and obviously lost to Emma in the SF, but relatively speaking, her accomplishments were up there, in a Chris Wilder potential MOTY sort of way. 2 very eye catching wins, and I'd say her stock has gone up.

I'm not sure where she is playing next as shes not in the British Tour or UK Pro Series lists next week, nor the Progress Tour the following week (unfortunately), but if she can back up this week sometime later in the month, then I might nominate her.

Definitely makes sense. I think earlier in the year I and one or two others fell into the trap of nominating any winner, but over a period of time, body of work is important and seeing players get results above their "ranking" and doing that more than once is important as well. I'd say all of Marni, Arthur and Emma are ones to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.

With an eye on players who might start to get mentioned in this respect.

Women - In the UK Pro event final, Jodie Burrage is playing, she also reached last weeks British Tour Final and so has two straight weeks in the final, so good form from her.

On the mens side, Arthur Fery has reached a 2nd final, adding to his title last week on the British Tour with a final in the UK Pro event at SGH. Good form from him certainly; Luke Johnson was a SF at the British Tour event last week and also faces Fery in the SGH final, another showing some  decent form. And Cam reaches the BT final and adds to the semis appearance at Battle of the Brits.

Still, Evo and Kyle and Jamie the only nominees so far, maybe one of these will cause someone to nominate tomorrow?

And Cam gets the British Tour win to add to his Battle of Brits semifinal.

And Jodi adds to her British Tour final last week with a win at SGH.

So her and Cam Norrie are building that body of work. Can Fery or Johnson join them.

Well, young Arthur Féry has to go on the list - with back-to-back wins - and in style too.

I'll nominate him if he's needs a proposer

Ah, you just beat me to it. A very impressive couple of weeks from the young man.

Jodie and Cam still more to do.

Brian Fery biggrin

I'd personally agree that Cam still has a bit more work to do to put himself in real contention. He did stand out pretty clear in this BT entry list, and while he can only beat what's in front of him, he was a big favourite in all 4 matches, especially those first 2. As strange as it sounds, I'd actually say his best singles result of this COVID era was probably losing 10-8 to Edmund in the MTB of the BotB SF.

I was going to nominate (and probably even vote) for Alicia D, had she beaten Maia in that close MTB earlier, but while still a cracking few days for her, particularly beating a mid 300s player yesterday, I think she really needed something a bit more tangible to really stand out. I think she might be playing in the BT next week in a slightly weaker field, so it could be a chance to back this week up.

And a doubles win for Cam, another good week over the next few (we are halfway through the 6 that will count for June and July) and Cam and Jodie could get themselves in the mix.
