GB Player of the Month

Jodie reaches the semi this week in the Progress Tour and continues to build her record over June and July. Alastair Gray also adds to his British tour doubles win, and BT singles final in BT week 1, with a strong performance this week. Maybe both these two will clinch a nomination this week?

Just looking at the players still in the various events and, barring who ends up winning them, players who might be in consideration for a nomination for June/July Player of Month:

British Tour events - no one in either field who has done anything of note previous to this week, those who end up winning may get themselves noticed.

Progress Tour - Katie B into the final, Jodie Burrage won the week 1 UK Pro Series event and was finalist in the British Tour Premier event a couple of weeks ago. A semi win might put her into the mix Edit - Jodie has now reached the final and also is in doubles SF action later. Must be getting pretty close to a nomination smile

UK Pro Series Womens - Emily Appleton has a British Tour Premier Doubles title and was a SF last week in UK Pro Series, where she has reached again this week. Similar record to Naomi Broady who she beat in that doubles final on the British Tour.

UK Pro Series Mens - this weeks 4 semifinalists all add to some previous progress. Lloyd Glasspool was RU in Battle of Brits Doubles; Anton Matusevich was a SF in British Tour Premier; Billy Harris was a SF in last weeks UK Pro event and also the previous week at British Tour Tier 1 event; Alastair Gray was RU in the Tier 1 British Tour event and doubles winner at the British Tour Premier doubles.

I think anyone this week is going to need to win an event to come into consideration , if not this week then for later in the month, but if anyone sees someone they feel deserves a nomination, feel free to go with it!

Remember the nominees so far are:

Jamie Murray
Dan Evans
Kyle Edmund
Arthur Fery

Missing any of our womens players so far...

for those not familiar, nominations can be made by anyone who thinks a player is deserving. I will accept ALL nominations unless darn silly (!). At the end of the month (2nd August in this case) play, we have a poll whereby people can vote for the player who they feel is most deserving.

Previous 2020 Winners have been:

January - Joe Salisbury (no vote, retrospectively awarded)
February - Heather Watson
March - Sam Murray-Sharan (albeit a much condensed month so little play took place)

Stick me down for an official nomination for Emily Appleton Jon. Very solid few weeks for her. Pushed eventual winner Emma R really hard in week 1, plus the dubs title as you say. Surpassed her ranking last week to reach the semi final, and while the odds in her match with Beth were pretty much 50/50 today, she still beat a higher ranked player to make the final, so has kind of done more than she was 'supposed' to every week.

I think she'd need the title tomorrow to be in realistic contention to win it, and that's doubtful, but she's done enough already, relatively, to at least be in the conversation IMO.

(I'm assuming someone else will officially nominate Jodie...)

Ace:- (I'm assuming someone else will officially nominate Jodie...)

Me too, and she must be one of the favourites to win it.

But I am going to nominate Alicia Barnett. She has just won the doubles (with Olivia Nicolls), won the tie-break tens, reached the semi's in the singles and did tremendous work behind the scene in setting up the tournament.

Great, thanks Ace and TA, so we have

Jamie Murray
Dan Evans
Kyle Edmund
Arthur Fery
Emily Appleton
Alicia Barnett
Jodie Burrage (see note below)

There are no limitations on how many players you can nominate, so I'm taking it I can assume Jodie Burrage is also nominated and add her to the list!

OK, Jodie is officially nominated - I thought for some reason it was only one. She's had a tremendous month.

I think Katie Boulter should be in the mix also so I will nominate her given she's won (twice!)

Hi FW, she is added. Although what has she won that makes it twice? Progress Tour and...?

I think back in Februart Bob went and nominated pretty much every body, so set a precedent I'm happy to keep!

I think all 8 nominations are good ones and make it an interesting month.

With a 1 BT week left, 2 weeks of SGH in the month, and a Best of Brits event to come, still plenty of play left. Also, not sure if anyone is doing big stuff in WTT this month,  we have Jonny, Luke, ken, neal and Dino all playing.

Seems Neal Skupski has the 2nd best record of all players in WTT so far . Games are what counts there and a 59 percent record is impressive. If he keeps that up alongside his battle of Brits win, he might be looking at s nomination.

Overall
Rank Player Team GP GW GL Pct
1 Kim Clijsters NYE 67 40 27 60%
2 Neal Skupski NYE 66 39 27 59%
3 Bethanie Mattek-Sands CHI 63 36 27 57%
4 Taylor Townsend PHL 67 38 29 57%
5 Taylor Fritz PHL 50 28 22 56%

For more info. Luke is also doing well in mens doubles, but Neal is doing well in that and mixed.
