That's a rule that really needs to be looked at.
Cynical, but makes the RET more understandable. If you know you are going to get a MD place regardless of the result of the match, why bother with the inconvenience of playing the match? Bencic's withdrawal was known in advance, and it seems Dodin knew she was the recipient, too.
