Flipkens up a set and a break on Buzarnescu, 6-2, *3-1 - didn't see that coming. Obviously much more experienced on the main tour than Buz, but that would probably be a more favourable match up for Jo in the next round.

40 points is quality for two matches. Another 25 if she wins tonight!

30 and 35 respectively. The women qualifiers don't get the R1 10 points.

That's general in the women's rankings, whether the R1 points are 1 or 10,  qualifiers get their qualifying points plus MD points from R2 on.

That's a rule that really needs to be looked at.

Cynical, but makes the RET more understandable. If you know you are going to get a MD place regardless of the result of the match, why bother with the inconvenience of playing the match?
Bencic's withdrawal was known in advance, and it seems Dodin knew she was the recipient, too.

If only Naomi had won the match.

... though I assume that Naomi, being unseeded, wouldn't have been in line for a LL spot so would have actually had to win her FQR.

Great to see Katie qualify in what has been a relatively tough start to the year but playing bigger events.

I think she'll struggle against Su-Wei but good luck to her.

Good to see Bethanie Mattek-Sands back on court after that horrible injury suffered last year at Wimbledon.
