Other events - week 4

Israel, G5:

R1: Sam BOSSEM (GBR) [8]     6-0 6-2     Raz KATZ (ISR)

For some reason, the other lads from last week are only in the doubles this week.

But Dan Webb & partner have made the semis, and Barney Fitzpatrick and partner are into the quarters.

New Zealand, G4:

R1 (L64) : Derrick CHEN (GBR) [12]     6-4 6-0     Liam ADAMS (NZL)

(girls) Kiana MOKHTARI (GBR) [14]     6-4 6-3     Cydney CRUMBIE (AUS)

R2 (L32): Derrick CHEN (GBR) [12]     6-3 6-1     Bryn NAHRUNG (AUS)

(girls) Tamara ANDERSON (NZL)     6-1 6-1     Kiana MOKHTARI (GBR) [14]

Poland, G4:

R1: Alexander MAGGS (GBR) [8]     6-4 6-3     Theo ORTIS (FRA)

Patryk KOSINSKI (POL)     6-7(5) 6-2 6-4     Matthew CLEGG (GBR)

(SE) Amarni BANKS (GBR)     6-3 6-4     Marta JASKIEWICZ (POL)

Derrick lost to a name that would bring poor SC out in hives for a week:

NZ, G4:

R3 (L16): Zion HEAVEN (USA) def. Derrick CHEN (GBR) [12] 3-6 7-6(2) 6-2

Derrick (or his partnership, at any rate) then withdrew from the doubles. Hope all's OK.

Only doubles today in Poland:

Poland, G4:

Amarni BANKS (GBR) / Maria DZEMESHKEVICH (RUS) 6-0 6-7(5) [10-5] Alisa AXYANOVA (RUS) / Marta JASKIEWICZ (POL)

Israel, seemingly, is pretty much rained off.

Czech Rep., G4:

R1 (L32):

Martin KRUMICH (CZE) 6-3 6-3 Rahul DHOKIA (GBR) [7]

Tiegan AITKEN (GBR) [6] 6-0 6-0 Julie ZYTOVA (CZE)

Interesting you should say re Marni, CD. I do recall hearing pretty good things about her, born October 2002 just a month older than Emma Radacanu.

And I noted her lose a tight 3 setter during Emma's run to the title in the Liverpool G5 tournament in November 2015 without dropping a further set, the first ITF outing for both. Emma had been a bit more talked about and clearly that success and more just added, but I was looking forward to following both paths.

Marni though has not gone on to play a relative great many ITFs, though about as many as Emma in total, and not made much particular impression to date. Still very young of course and I'd be interested to hear anything more about her.

I think Marni is still based in Spain so, if that's right, I imagine she's playing Spanish domestic tennis for competition practice and not bothering too much with juniors. (Although I might well be wrong.....)

But it's all looking pretty good at the moment:

Poland, G4:

QF girls: Amarni BANKS (GBR) 6-2 6-3 Angelina WIRGES (GER) [6]

QF boys: Jan WAJDEMAJER (POL) 6-0 7-6(3) Alexander MAGGS (GBR) [8]

Thanks CD. If that is based in Spain because of her tennis ( as opposed to separate family reasons ) that is quite a commitment at that age with serious intent.

The top seed was too much for Marni but it's been a great week for her and she'll have a big jump up the ranking tables:

Poland, G4:

FINAL: Weronika BASZAK (POL) 6-3 6-1 Amarni BANKS (GBR)

the Israeli event has been majorly disrupted this week, with at least three days with no play.

Barney F and partner, however, are now through to the semis and will play their SF tomorrow (and the final if they win).

Dan Webb and partner lost their semi today.
