Well done Liam. Thought hed lost it after two very close linecalls (called by umpire) went against him to drop 3-5 down in final set. So full marks to keep it together and get the win. Good opportunity I would have thought in next round.
Very solid looking win for Liam. Even though his results didn't work out in his 1st two tournaments this year (ATP Doha and AO Qualies) he was clearly hitting the ball well. Liam only has 34 points to defend until the end of April and if he wins one more match here, he will have all but covered those off (33 for a SF place) in just one week.
His QF opponent will be either Frenchman Guinard who has never been ranked inside the Top 700 (but took out the 3rd seed in R1) or the rather more well known name of a certain Ernest Gulbis.
So as has been discussed before, plenty of room for a ranking improvement over the early part of the year and the signs are looking good.
