I officiated her QR2 match in Brisbane this year. Shes a decent young player but not quite the finished article as yet.

Is that saying you were the Umpire?

Confirmed as one of 8 Aussies competing for the RG reciprocal wildcard. I guess you don't get perks like that here...

Isabelle is one of 4 competing for the Aussie #10 spot along with Jaimie Fourliss, Ellen Perez, and Zoe Hives. Tough at the top smile

Those #10 to #13 are WR 224 to 261. Our #10 to #13 are WR 430 to 487.

OK, #10 plus is a particular issue for us just now but also they have 4 in the top 100 and 9 in total in the top 200 ( against our 2 and 5 ). As the "Strongest Nation" thread shows their top 10 average out at 121.2 as against our current high for us 197.0.

Pretty good for depth, even if one can probably argue that some of the gap may be down to a good number of relatively soft Australian tournaments that have helped push up a few rankings.

And others might argue that Brits have done pretty well from benefiting from those 'soft' tournaments too! biggrin

Beats Aiava 6-0 6-1 in the first round of the Aussie WC playoff, that's an amazing scoreline.

Most of Isabelle's best results have been on clay

Beats Cabrera 7-6(7) 1-6 6-1 and now has a very winnable match with Rogowska for a place in the French Open. I hope she makes it.

And now beats Rogowska in 3 to secure her place at the French Open, her first Grand Slam appearance.

Well done Izzy! Shes had a lean start to 2018 (compared to her stellar start to 2017) but this is an amazing opportunity for her. Its only her second grand slam MD appearance after her doubles WC in Melbourne in January and her first in singles. Hopefully it spurs her into a renewed push up the rankings.

Isabelle was actually the only player born on the British mainland to play in the singles at the 2018 French Open. As with the cricket and players born in South Africa both British male representatives were born in Johannesburg.

Good point, Rosamund. It's a funny world smile

I had made the same observation about the men but hadn't realised about the women too.

Shame about that result. She was obviously a heavy underdog, but, while I didn't see any of the game, I'm sure she didn't do herself justice. Possibly just froze on the occasion. Alison is obviously a decent player, but if you take out her 2 indoor titles these past 12 months at Quebec and Budapest (where she's a very good player) she'd be way down in 130 in the rankings, so basically on your 3 traditional surfaces, hasn't performed too well generally since last yeas FO.

Whatever they're doing for Izzy down there seems to be working - coming on in leaps and bounds - Good luck to her smile
