She's also world junior no. 151 and won Australian national U14 title in 2011 and U16 title in 2012, both on red clay.

There's more than a hint of a gauntlet being thrown down to the LTA here, so maybe they have now reached some kind of agreement with the family and that's why she is playing for GB again, who knows.

Tennis politics (yawn!) aside, she seems a decent prospect.

Er, how did you work that out? She has 3 ranking points, 2 of which came from losing in the first round of $25K's where she had a wild card, and the 3rd from beating an unranked player in the first round of a $10K.

Yes, I know I'm a miserable cynic, but I've been around junior tennis an awful long time now, and I've seen far too many of these "British family moans like hell that SOMEONE ELSE won't pay for their darling's ambition, and so suffers appalling upheavals in pursuit of that elusive dream".

And since life has told me that an essential guiding principle is "never make unnecessary enemies", why do they always feel the need to slag off the LTA, the government, and anyone else they can think of?

There seems to be a new Brit on the 14 January WTA singles ranking list called Isabelle Wallace. She is just 16 and was born in Inverness but appears that she used to play for Australia and has just switched. She is now showing as GBR on both the WTA and ITF sites.

There is a BBC Highlands & Islands article about her at http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-19635136 but it was written only 4 months ago and includes the line "The teenager has committed to represent Australia for the next three years, before she reaches the next stage in her career."

Anyone know anything more?

Assuming this is genuine, she becomes GB's youngest player with a singles ranking, since she is 6 weeks younger than Harriet Dart.

She's confirmed in a tweet that she's switched back to GBR which is great news. Good prospect, competing particularly well at Senior level.

Let's hope she does more representing GBR than the last unexpected switcher, Andrew Gregory, did!

there was an article on tv in north of scotland several months ago. Isabelles dad is a baker in Inverness and is subsidising his daughters tennis career in Australia,at one point I  think the whole family was over there. Little or no financial support from LTA

The ITF site has Izzy down as being Australian again. Has she switched back??

I wonder if she has or if she never changed to GB on ITF and we just didn't notice (seems unlikely)

She's still showing up as GBR on the WTA site. If that changes too then it's probably conclusive proof, but until then, unless she says something herself, it'll remain a mystery.

The ITF site definitely had her as British last week, according to a Google cache: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:hL3JBK3YDj4J:www.itftennis.com/procircuit/players/player/profile.aspx%3Fplayerid%3D100146384+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk

Isabelles high ranking was down to 18pts from a SF in Canada. After those pts dropped off she was still playing 10ks, and making progress, under GB colours. WTA still have her as UK.

Maybe the Aussies have offered a better deal than the LTA - it wouldn't be difficult - but last 2 tweets (Nov 3/4) show a Union Jack?

Izzy has re-tweeted a tweet from GSC Management Group that clarifies things:

GSC Management Group ‏@GSCTennis 13h13 hours ago
Good luck to Izzy Wallace @izzywallace96 as she honours her early and fruitful Aussie training roots by taking Australian nationality

I guess we'll see whether Tennis Australia re-embraces her or not.

Her parents were quite open when she came back from Aus that it was only because the LTA had offered her a really good deal.  At the time some of the Brit girls around her age were a bit put out as they felt it was her ranking (largely unearned) and that she had been in the junior Aus Fed Cup team rather than the actual standard of her tennis which was getting her this special treatment.  Some sympathy with their views as she certainly didn't stand out when she first got back here, but nonetheless she has made good progress since.  However, now the money has dried up, I suppose no other reason to stay on these shores.

She's ranked 779 at the age of 19, with a (let's be charitable) "feisty" father. (Unlike him, I don't regard it as "tragic" that our good friends in Scotland don't spend more of their money on paying for his daughter's tennis training.)

You know what, even if she had a chance of making a living from playing pro tennis, I don't care what country she decides to play for from week-to-week ... smile
