Sounds like WTA will decide during us open. Riyadh seems favourite with Washington DC and Prague in the running among others. Presumably no British bids.

Seems like the WTA saw sense

It's Cancun

Mexico here we go! Guadalajara was a success a couple of years back and also has the 1000 event in a couple of weeks. Glad they chose a decent place- outdoors or indoor courts?

WTA finals in Cancun , Mexico , run until 5th November

BJK Cup finals in Seville, Spain, start 7th November

No direct flights from Cancun to Seville. Good work WTA guys.

Plus a significant amount of players are Czech that will qualify for either singles or doubles.

In front of sparse crowds, in Cancun, it looks like Jessica Pegula has won her second match with a win over Sabalenka and is through to the last 4.

The womens top 8, though, deserve more than this. What a mess.

Steve Simon needs to resign, WTA needs new leadership with someone who can secure significant investment.

PS - the CVC Capital investment that was announced earlier this year seemingly went cold/nowhere or isn't having much impact.

Its still going and theyre talking with the ATP also around joint rights

https://news.sky.com/story/game-set-and-match-as-cvc-clinches-150m-stake-in-womens-tennis-tour-12827846

CVC took a 20 percent stake in the WTA and as part of the deal, Steve Simon is moving up although that hasnt happened yet, I dont think?

I used to work with one of the partners closely, he was on my board - I offered my help but I didn't get a response LOL :)

You'll see the impact of the CVC investment next year with the new calendar* and intention to create an elite group and separation between the top 30 and the rest.

* More 1000s and 500s and fewer 250s with Top 30 banned from entering 250s (unless they're one of the exceptions) in weeks where there is a 500.

IMO this is a bad move. I started to review the point differential between each 100 places in the WTA ranking - I havent finished yet ( a few more months to retirement!) -  this is going to make it more difficult for our juniors to transition to seniors. Will do some more analysis unless someone else can contribute further insights?
